‘KUBS 120 MARCH’ Campaign Nears 40% of Goal … Total Pledges Reach Approx. KRW 4.6 Billion Three major large-scale pledges secured within four months of launch … Campaign continues through November 30     Korea University Business School’s KRW 12 billion fundraising campaign, “KUBS 120 MARCH,” has secured approximately KRW 4.6 billion in pledged donations within just four months of its launch, nearing 40% of its goal.   Since the campaign’s launch in January, when pledged donations stood at around KRW 2 billion, the total has more than doubled in just three months. From December 1, 2025, to November 30, 2026, total pledges reached KRW 4,652,317,231, with 324 participants, including corporations, alumni, faculty, staff, and students.       | Three major pledges secured … Alumni and corporations join forces    One of the most notable achievements is the securing of three major pledges. An anonymous donor pledged support for the research fund, Eugene Investment & Securities Co., Ltd. for the development fund, and Samyang Tongsang for scholarships. Alumni account for approximately 62% of total pledges, while corporations represent about 35%, jointly driving the campaign forward.   Group donations have also continued. Following the participation of the Class of ’81 alumni association, the Business School Class of ’79 Scholarship Committee (28 members), the KUBS Class of ’98 Alumni Night (126 participants), as well as faculty and staff, have also joined the campaign.      | Expanding participation across classes, generations, and professions    The donor base is highly diverse. Participation spans from alumni who entered in the 1970s to current students from the Class of ’26, as well as members of EMBA, DBA, and AMP programs, undergraduate alumni, and even alumni from the College of Medicine. From individual research labs and faculty bands to student councils, all corners of the Business School are actively engaging with the campaign, further broadening its base of participation.   This campaign is particularly meaningful in that it places value not only on the total amount raised but also on participation itself. From small contributions starting at KRW 10,000 to major gifts reaching KRW 1 billion, every act of giving becomes part of the shared legacy of KUBS’s 120-year history.    | Investing in the future campus… Advancing the 3C Trading Zone and 4Tech strategy    The funds raised are being used to realize the Business School’s future vision. Alongside the advancement of the “4Tech Strategy,” centered on AI, semiconductors, energy, and robotics, spatial innovation projects are also taking shape.   The Business School is already operating AI-focused tracks and 4Tech micro-degree programs, and continues to expand its educational and research capabilities with its largest-ever full-time faculty body of 95 members.   On the basement level of Hyundai Motor Hall, the “3C Trading Zone (tentative name)” is currently under development, with a trading demo day scheduled for early May. The space will also include an Art & Culture Room. Artist Uhm Jung-soon’s installation piece, K, the Noseless Elephant, has already been installed in the building.   Construction has also begun on an LED display in the lobby of LG-POSCO Hall, which will serve as a large-scale digital donor wall. An opening ceremony is scheduled following the conclusion of the campaign in May.   Dean Eonsoo Kim stated, “We have come this far thanks to the collective support of each and every member,” adding, “We hope more people will join us on this journey as we prepare for the next 120 years of the Business School.”   The “KUBS 120 MARCH” campaign will continue through November 30, 2026. Donations can be made via the official sponsorship page (box.donus.org/box/koreauniversity/KUBS120march).   As of December 1, 2025 – November 30, 2026 | Total pledged amount: KRW 4,652,317,231

[Startup Institute Lecture Series #7] “Start up from Scratch” - Park Joon-hye, CEO of Woot

“Start up from Scratch” - Park Joon-hye, CEO of Woot   The seventh lecture of the Lecture Series, organized by Korea University Business School (Dean=Johngseok Bae) and KUBS Startup Station (Director= Hojung Shin), was held on December 1 (Tue). The Lecture Series is a lecture given by startup mentors currently active in the field as a part of the Entrepreneurship Academy hosted by Seung Myung-Ho Center for Entrepreneurship Education - the education institution in the Startup Station.   Under the title of "Start up from Scratch," the special lecture was delivered by Park Joon-hye, a graduate of Korea University's business school and CEO of "Woot," a networking platform based on interest. The lecture was transmitted online in real time due to the COVID-19 situation.   Taking advantage of her experience, CEO Park Joon-hye listed what one should know when starting a business as a student. To start a business, △experience △technology △capital are needed, but most university students cannot gain all three of these. Then how can one overcome the absence of these factors? Park proposed three ways. △If you don't have experience, don't try to gain experience in advance, but rather jump into the business and go through trial and error △test the technology in a way that minimizes costs and use the same technology when converting business items, △apply for various funding sourcesfrom various institutions such as the KUBS Startup Station.   Based on this information, Park also offered practical tips and psychological advice to university student founders. In particular, he emphasized the spirit of challenge, saying that they should start their business in the field where there are no competitors rather than a business model with a good marketability. He also concluded his lecture by stressing that one should reflect on “why” he or she wants to start a business.

KUBS has been continuously dedicating in their advantages and challenging for new values every year”.   Dean Johngseok Bae addressed his vision through an interview with Hankyung Business, saying “The reason why KUBS could maintain its static position is because we have been pursuing a mutual goal between the school and students for 115 years. In 2020, which is a significant time of transformation, KUBS will strive to foster new leaders who can understand the root of business studies and develop creative goals”.   This year, Hankyung Business School Ranking made its 13th assessment for Korean business schools. The core feature of Hankyung’s assessment is that the ratings are made from the demand’s perspective, the corporates who are looking for talents to hire. Therefore, Hankyung’s aim is on evaluating how the graduates from business schools are actually performing as employees after finishing their MBA courses. Above all, Hankyung values leadership capabilities that can quickly adapt into new environments and motivate others as team-workers.

Please tell us about how you decided to participate in this Social Value Research Competition. Hello, I'm Kim Sang-yoon (Business School ’19), representative of the team D&A who won the best award of the 2020 Social Value Research Competition. All of our team members graduated from the same high school and entered Korea University Business School as a freshman in 2019. When we were in high school, we had a lot of interest in people as well as our society, and we believe this has led us to the interest towards social values even after entering our university. In 2019, we were selected for the Social Value Research Competition and conducted our research, but it was regrettable that we failed to create the actual social value by putting our research into practice. In 2020, we wanted to carry out in-depth research with a new theme to produce results that lead to creating actual social values. I'm very happy to achieve this excellent result through our effort. I would like to thank Professor Soongsoo Han for giving us great motivation and also for providing appropriate advice and support to us.   2. Please introduce your project which won the Best Award. D&A focused on small instruments (recorder, Danso, ocarina, etc.) and art supplies (color pencils, markers, paints, crayons, etc.) that most people haven't used since high school. By linking these abandoned and neglected resources to children in underdeveloped countries under poor educational conditions, we have set up missions and looked for solutions to ensure that children have hope as well as the right to feel the beauty of art. The key to the solution was to procure sterilization and transportation costs that would occur if the uncontrolled or discarded art instruments were to be delivered to children on the other side of the globe. Thus, D&A has created a system to pay for the costs of reprocessing and delivering art instruments by acting on behalf of the client’s CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) and winning projects to promote the company in various methods in the art education process. Our goal is to cast local music teachers to carry out systematic music education, hold community recorder contests using our client’s display, and operate a touring music education volunteer group using buses produced by the client to realize sustainable virtuous cycle of art education through various activities related to the client. It promotes CSR projects of the clients by recording and transparently disclosing these education content through text and video sources. This will ensure the joy of sharing to donators, the beauty of art to children in underdeveloped countries, and effective CSR activities and corporate promotion to partner companies.   3. What is the social value which D&A tries to pursue through this project. D&A offers new opportunities for children in underdeveloped countries who lack artistic experience due to social conditions. It is already self-evident in pedagogics that children with experience in culture and arts education are less aggressive and hostile than those without experience in culture and arts education. According to a survey of children who received art education through our project, most of the respondents showed positive emotional response, such as strengthened ties with their friends through playing musical instruments. In addition, the goal of saving and recycling resources is achieved by delivering the unused and neglected art tools which has the value of the remaining lifespan to those who need them. The last thing we had in mind was the continuous creation of social values. We wanted to create a business model that could draw voluntary and continuous participation from all members across the whole process; a sustainable social value-creating business model rather than a one-time event. Children not only receive education, but also deliver the beauty of music that they experienced to other students as educational services, enabling them to create a series of continuous social values.   4. Are there any memorable episodes which happened during your research. The preparation process was hard, but I was able to overcome it delightfully because I participated as a team with my close friends. Among several methods of collecting recorders, I remember selecting one apartment near the university and collecting them around 782 households to verify the collection of home visits with my team members. Also, there were many unexpected situations because all institutions and daily life were almost paralyzed by the COVID-19 incident. Particularly, only the most expensive EMS premium delivery service was available due to the paralysis of logistics. I was glad to be able to carry out the research at the expense of high shipping charges since I thought that the worst-case scenario would be the cancel of delivery. Although there were times during the preparation process when we couldn't find the solution and didn't know how to solve it, but we always had meetings pleasantly with a creed of one team member's words, "It's not that there's no hope at all”. It was an experience that will be very helpful in the future.   5. What can be some aspects that we could do together to create a culture that emphasizes social values. I think the starting point for creating social values is the interest towards people and our society. Social values are ultimately created by solving social problems, and we need to be able to see social discomfort in order to create such values. The theme of this research is the idea which I came up with while organizing my desk. If I had thrown away the recorder rolling around the drawer without thinking, it would have been impossible to create such values. Also, I believe the starting point of this study is that we've always been interested in the poor educational environment of children in other countries and constantly thinking about what we can do. I think this competition is very meaningful in that sense because everyone has different ideas, experiences, and interests; therefore, they can share their ideas and perspectives on social issues and solutions through competitions and forums. I would like to thank the Business School and SK for supporting us and providing this great opportunity to participate in the competition.
