Length of studentship and graduation procedure
- Course Completion 30(36,54) credits
- Foreign language test & comprehensive exam
- Dissertation
- If registered: Automatically changed to a completion research (enrolled) student.
- If not registered: Completed student. Completion Research and Enrollment Fee: Tuition + Research supervision fee + Medical insurance deduction fee (Tuition and medical insurance deduction fee are charged only once).
- No registration fee during the leave of absence period.
- Registration is mandatory in the semester when applying for graduation thesis examination.
- Qualification:
- a) Master's Program: Those who have earned 12 or more credits and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- b) Doctoral Program: Those who have earned 21 or more credits and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- c) MS/PhD Integrated Program: Those who have earned 30 or more credits and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Regardless of the results of the foreign language test, students can take the exam.
※ PhD and MS/PhD Integrated candidates must publish in at least one publication in SCI-listed journals (Each major area may require a higher standard. Please refer to the internal rules of the relevant major area.)
Research Ethics&Human Rights and Gender Equality Course
- As one of qualification requirements for submitting a thesis, all courses must be completed before the start date of the thesis examination application period.
- Course Period: It is recommended to take the course in the 1st semester after admission(available for enrolled/on leave/completed students).
- Course Enrollment Method: Research Ethic(Research Integrity website) /Human Rights and Gender Equality (Blackboard)
- * Relevant information will be announced on the official website of the Graduate School or KUBS official website.
- Substitution: If a student completes the Graduate School Freshman Course(GRA511), it will be accepted as a substitute for all the courses mentioned above.
Voluntary Withdrawal
- Application Process: Submit the withdrawal form to the academic affairs office of the relevant college
- Tuition refund: Requesting tuition refund after the voluntary withdrawal

Readmission
- Students who have deregistered because of voluntary withdrawal, non-registration or exceeding the length of leave of absence, may be readmitted one time only within the limits of admission quotas of that particular year.
- The length of studentship for readmitted students is the same as the deadline for dissertation pass (MS 6 years, PhD 10 years, MS/PhD Integrated 12 years from the first entry).
- Readmitted students shall not exceed the maximum period of leave including the period of leave before readmission.
Leave of Absence (Special Leave) that is not included during the leave of absence period.
- Military Service Leave
- Maternity/Childbirth/Childcare Leave
- Entrepreneurship Leave
- Institutional Work and Training Leave
- Disaster/Infectious Disease Leave
* For freshmen, leave of absence during the 1st semester is not allowed, except for military service leave and maternity/childbirth/childcare leave.
Change of Majors
- Application Period: Submit the following documents to the administrative office during the academic status change period before the completion of each program.
- Required Documents:
- a) Application for Change of Major
- b) Academic Transcript
Changing/Extending of Academic advisor
- Changing Academic Advisor: If an academic advisor retires, takes a leave of absence, or for any other reason is unable to continue advising a student for a period of one year or more, the student must change their advisor.
- Extending Academic Advisor: If an academic advisor is set to retire, the student must apply for an extension of the advisor's appointment within one semester from the retirement date.
* If the advisor is appointed as an honorary professor within one semester after retirement, the student does not need to submit a separate "Request for Extending Academic Advisor" form during the appointment period.
Change of registration status
Application for a change of registration status (leave of absence, returning to school, readmission, voluntary withdrawal, changing the academic advisor and changing the major) should be submitted during end of Feb. ~ end of Mar. (1st semester) or end of Aug ~ end of Sep (2nd semester). (Exact dates will be announced in every semester on KUPID notice board and the Graduate School website.)
Academic/research/industrial collaborative program
Candidates who are admitted to collaborative program are required to work at affiliated organizations until their graduation.
Dissertation Examination
- Application Period: End of April (for late graduates)/End of October (for early graduates) every year.
- Announcements are made on the KUBS official website each semester.
- For the format of the dissertaiton examination application, please refer to the attached file in the announcement.
- Application Requirements: Must be enrolled as a student (Completion research (enrolled) students are recommended to take Research Ethics (DKK600)).
- Qualifications for Dissertation Submission:
- a) Passed the Foreign Language Test
- b) Passed the Comprehensive Exam
- c) Completed the Human Rights and Gender Equality education
- d) Completed the Research Ethics education
- e) For students in either doctoral or MS/PhD Integrated program, they must satisfy the requirements for conference presentations and paper publications in their major.
- * Please note that specific requirements may vary depending on your major's guidelines. It is recommended to refer to the major regulation and consult with your academic advisor or administrative office for precise information.
Award for Excellent Dissertation
- Application period: Every May (To be announced every year)
- Eligibility : Current student (registered or temporarily absent), Completed research student (whose length of studentship has not been exceeded), Graduates (August graduates of previous year or February graduates of that year)
- Eligible Academic Fields :Humanities, Social science, Natural science, Engineering science, Medical science.
- Documents to be submitted;
- Five copies of dissertation (photocopies acceptable)
- Five copies of application form for dissertation award, abstract and list of research output
- One copy of certificate of publication by a renowned domestic or international journal
- Awards: Award certificate and case prize of 2,000,000 KRW
Comprehensive Exam
Eligibility
- MS program: Those who acquired 18 or more credits and received GPA 3.0 or above
- PhD program : Those who acquired 27 or more credits and received GPA 3.0 or above
- MS/PhD program: Those who acquired 45 or more credits and received GPA 3.0 or above
Application Procedure
- Application period : From middle to the end of every March/September
- Documents to be submitted: One copy of application form and academic transcript
- How to apply : Submit the documents to the academic affairs office of the relevant college with the approvals of the academic advisor and the head of department.
The approval of the head of department is given by the academic affairs office of the relevant college. Exempted students also must submit the required documents to the academic affairs office of the relevant college.
Maximum number of times the exam can be taken
The examination may be taken up to 3 times. PhD candidates must pass the exam within 7 semesters and MS/PhD integrated candidates within 9 semesters. If the internal rules of the relevant major stipulate separate policy, candidates should be subject to the rules.
Department of Business Administration
- MS program: Test questions from 3 courses in the major area (Students are exempted from the exam when grades of any three courses taken within the respective major area are all equal to or above B+.)
- PhD program: Test questions on the major area (Details may be specified by each major area’s internal rules.)
Department of International Business
- MS program : Test questions from 3 courses in the major area (Students are exempted from the exam when grades of any three courses taken within the respective major area are all equal to or above B+.)
- Major areas and exam subjects
- International business major : International business, International marketing , International finance
- International trade major : International trade, International trade and investment environment, International finance
- Major areas and exam subjects
- PhD program : At least average 70 points out of 100 points are required in order to pass the examination for the major as well as the minor field. (If the average score is below 70, a partial pass will be granted to the major subject with 85 points or above.)
- With GPA of 3.0 or higher and 27 credits or more students can apply for the examination.
- Comprehensive exam for the minor field is exempted for the student who earned higher than B+ average for the courses (at least 9 credits) in the minor field. - Major areas and exam subjects

- International marketing major (International marketing)
- International finance and banking major (International financial market)
- International trade and commerce major (International trade and investment environment)
- With GPA of 3.0 or higher and 27 credits or more students can apply for the examination.
Best English Thesis Award
- Period: Conducted every semester (twice a year)
- Selection Method: Among the students who have applied for the dissertation examination, the best English paper is selected by major.
- Prizes: Certificate of recognition and a scholarship of 300,000 KRW.
- The date and venue for the award ceremony will be informed to the awardees each semester.
