Department of Business Administration, Graduate School, Korea University Recruiting New Students

Department of Business Administration, Graduate School, Korea University Recruiting New Students for Fall 2026… Applications Open Until April 9   A new opportunity is opening for those seeking to advance both their research direction and career development. The Department of Business Administration at the Graduate School of Korea University has begun accepting applications for domestic students for the Fall 2026 intake, with the application deadline set for 5:00 PM on Thursday, April 9.   As the business environment continues to evolve rapidly, the criteria for selecting a graduate program are also shifting. Beyond the name of the major, the strength of the research environment and academic network has become an increasingly important factor.    ▲ A group of full-time faculty members at Korea University Business School pose for a commemorative photo.    Korea University Business School boasts one of the largest research infrastructures in the country, supported by 95 full-time faculty members. This is considered a key strength, as it enables applicants to choose academic advisors who closely align with their research interests and topics. The faculty’s diverse expertise, spanning a wide range of subfields and research areas, provides a strong foundation for graduate students to conduct rigorous and advanced research.    As a research-oriented graduate school, Korea University Business School is also strengthening its interdisciplinary research environment to reflect rapidly evolving industries and societal needs. With a focus on the so-called “4Tech” fields—AI, semiconductors, robotics, and energy—the school is expanding the scope of business research beyond traditional boundaries and fostering the exploration of emerging challenges. Through this approach, students are able to analyze business phenomena from a more multidimensional perspective and develop their research questions into independent scholarly work.    Its research infrastructure is another key strength. Graduate students are provided with dedicated research spaces, including offices, seminar rooms, and lockers, along with access to data analysis software such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, and MATLAB. In addition, Korea University Library houses approximately 3.31 million volumes and 86,000 non-book materials, offering a comprehensive foundation for academic research.    In particular, students have access to major databases such as Bloomberg, Compustat, CRSP, WRDS, and LSEG Workspace. Recently, thanks to a donation from Eugene Investment & Securities, the number of Bloomberg terminals has been expanded to 12, further enhancing the research environment in finance and related fields.    Korea University Business School also offers a range of scholarship programs to support students in focusing on their research. These include full tuition coverage through research and teaching assistantships, as well as research scholarships under the BK21 program and merit-based scholarships. Approximately KRW 2.3 billion in scholarships are awarded annually, along with programs that encourage research activities, such as support for participation in international academic conferences.    For the Fall intake, the department will admit students to master’s, doctoral, and integrated master’s–doctoral programs in the following fields: Management, Global Business, Strategy, Finance, Information Systems (IS), and LSOM. The Marketing field will recruit only for doctoral and integrated programs, while Accounting and Business Analytics are excluded from this round of admissions.    The Fall admissions cycle is particularly meaningful as it provides another opportunity for applicants who have reassessed their academic or career paths following the Spring admissions cycle. For those who have further refined their research interests or career goals, this can serve as a strategic opportunity to select a research environment that best fits their needs.    Daeil Nam, Associate Dean for Research at Korea University Business School, stated, “As business studies become increasingly interconnected with industry, the importance of research environments and networks continues to grow,” adding, “We support our students in expanding their research and connecting it to real-world applications.”      ▶ Apply for Fall 2026 Domestic Graduate Admissions at Korea University ◀

Instructor Park Joon-gyu, who was in charge of this programming special lecture, first explained the data structure and repetition which are the basis of python programming. "The data structure basically provides four things at Python," said Park. "List and Dictionary are important among them. There are for-sentence and while-sentence, and for-sentence is highly utilized," he said. "When you first encounter Python, you should learn the list and the for-sentence." The five-day special course on programming was given on Python overview and programming techniques on the first day, Web crawling and data analysis on the second and third day, and data analysis practices and R basics on the fourth and fifth day,. Special lectures on mathematics and statistics were given in the afternoon. The specific course aimed to intuitively understand the mathematical-statistical basis and introduce a simple analytical model that can be applied to the BA curriculum and Capstone projects. Special lectures on mathematics and statistics were conducted by lecturer Lee Woong-ki. Lee began the lecture by outlining the course contents for five days. "What we will learn in the first day is about the level of a freshman in the undergraduate school, so I'm going to go through it step by step by step," he said. "But from day 2, the difficulty gradually rises, so I'll go with an intuitive explanation rather than a specific description." He went on, “The math and statistics special lecture will cover the mathematical basis of polynomial calculus, Taylor series, and marginal utility, as well as vectors, matrices and statistics on the first day. On the second and third day, we will learn about the partial differential, partial integral, retrograde sequence, matrix differential and large number of laws, and on the last four to five days, we will learn about the regression model, causal analysis model, and stock price analysis model.”

‘AWS Technical Essentials’ Special Lecture

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Technical Essentials Special Class was held on January 21 at 12:00 p.m. at LG-POSCO Building Ahn Young Il Hall (Room 625). AWS is the cloud computing business unit of is Amazon.com, Inc.. (hereinbelow Amazon), which currently holds the world’s largest market share in cloud-related fields. In line with the trend of the fourth industrial revolution, Korea University Business School joined AWS as a member institution and provides various cloud services to its members. In addition, the Business Analytics master’s course curriculum, which will make its first start in the 2020 school year, included a description of the AWS clouding system. The AWS Technical Essentials special lecture, was organized by AWS’ director Kang Dong-wan under the theme "Innovation of the Cloud Industry and Case on Enterprise Applications."   The lecture began with an introduction to Amazon. Amazon, the world’s largest E-commerce company, has been providing cloud services to customers since 2006. Besides cloud services, Amazon is also challenging various businesses such as △movies and dramas, △ smart products (artificial intelligence platform Alexa), △robotics for logistics innovation, △Amazon Key, and △automated drones.   “The reason Amazon was able to challenge its global business is because of its robust background servers," Kang Dong-wan said. With AWS’ cloud capabilities that provide solid servers, Amazon Fulfillment Center has also revolutionized logistics services. Kang then gave a lecture on the cases of local companies that used AWS' services. For AWS’s customer, ‘Woowa Brothers(Baemin)’ the company found it difficult to operate a fixed number of servers individually, as the number of delivery orders varies depending on time and promotions. As a result, ‘Woowa Brothers’ used AWS cloud services and enabled stable traffic management.   The second case was the Korean mobile shopping mall ZIGZAG. ZIGZAG wanted to develop a function to recommend clothes according to the color chosen by the customer. Therefore, AI and Machine Learning service that can distinguish color of clothes were used in pictures, and as a result, they were able to develop programs that can automatically distinguish color of clothes. Besides this, many other companies, including game companies, use AWS features in Korea, and Netflix, a global company, is also a customer of AWS, Kang said. Regarding AWS, which offers a variety of functions including servers, storage, databases and machine learning, Kang said it is like a mart. As for which material to choose from among many materials to produce, it is described as "like a mart" that depends on the needs of the customer. Also, Kang emphasized the cloud market, which is growing bigger every year. Cloud computing is available without initial investment and long-term contracts, and can be used over the Internet whenever IT resources and applications are desired. In particular, it can be used efficiently depending on how the fee is managed because it is a service that pays only as much as it is used.   Finally, Kang said, "Cloud computing topped the list of technologies with the highest demand for companies in 2011" released by the recruitment and job-based social networking service LinkedIn, and added, "Business Analytics," a new major at KUBS in 2020, is likely to be the most necessary subject in modern society."   After the lecture, a question and answer session ensued. Kim Bae-ho, Associate Dean who organized the lecture, asked about the final goal of the AWS service. "The ultimate goal of AWS is to play a role in helping Amazon realize its customers’ value through cloud services and infrastructure," Kang said. Another professor of KUBS, asked, "How do we prepare for security or stability problems that may arise when we use AWS?" In response, Kang said, "Employees working at AWS only access infrastructure servers and have no access to customer information." Regarding the stability issue, he said, "As we are basically backing up to two locations other than the main server, we will be able to make up for any accidents that threaten stability such as natural disasters."   In addition, there was a question about the ‘AWS Certificate’ from a student attending the lecture. "AWS certificates are designed to judge the skills of those who work in the cloud industry and those who support them," Kang said. "If you receive an AWS certificate, you will have many opportunities to use it in research and employment."   Finally, the special lecture was concluded with Associate Dean Kim’s thanks to AWS director Kang Dong-wan for another round of applause, along with the announcement that he will conduct an AWS seminar or workshop that will deepen and be beneficial in the future.

[Korea MBA] Field Trip to Vietnam (Fall 2019) – Short Memoir by Kim Seung Taek (Korea MBA, Admitted

[Korea MBA] Field Trip to Vietnam (Fall 2019) – Short Memoir by Kim Seung Taek (Korea MBA, Admitted at ’19)     Studying at the Korea MBA gives students the opportunity to broaden their insights as students who have accumulated field experience in diverse environments can discuss and share theories and field experiences with professors. When I debate with my fellow students who all have experience in a myriad of fields, I am inspired to develop ideas that are not conceivable at work and further progress them to the next level.   The Overseas Field Trip is a process that helps students directly see, experience, and expand what we’ve learned from our professors and fellow classmates by visiting an actual business site.   The 2019 Fall Field Trip that was held in Vietnam consisted of the head of KOTRA’s lecture about the Vietnamese economy, culture, and politics and visiting the business sites of successful Korean businesses in Vietnam along with lectures about the localization and differentiation strategies from administrators.   The companies that we visited were CGV, Lotte Mart, Shinhan and Samsung Electronics. Every company has become a leading company for each industry through differentiation strategies that fit each industry’s characteristics, and through complete localization, they have become companies loved by Vietnamese as well as employees. The companies all explained business with a good understanding of Vietnam’s political, economic and cultural characteristics and emphasized what they prepared, and it was a great opportunity to listen to the story and learn how to do business with Vietnam.   I understood Vietnam's social, political and economic culture through the overseas field trip program, so I decided to apply my new knowledge to my current work. On the last day, I decided to call my friend who was a Vietnam Sales Manager at an existing Global company and is currently importing and selling medical devices. Although we had been close to each other for about seven years, we had never done business together. Applying what I've learned, I tried to emphasize his self-esteem and our relationship, and he responded by offering to do business together and now he is talking about conditions for exporting to Vietnam.   Through the efforts of professors, managing staff and classmates who have prepared so hard, the solid schedule was completed and it was a meaningful overseas Field Trip in which I was able to learn a lot about Vietnam and apply them directly to my current work. Above all, I think it was more meaningful because I could talk with my classmates all night for four days through the overseas Field Trip.     ▶ What is Korea MBA field trip? 'Field Trip' is a specialized education program of Korea University’s Korea MBA designed to foster students’ global leadership, and it has recently conducted special lectures on foreign studies and experts, visits to local companies and industrial inspections, focusing on emerging markets in Southeast Asia.
