Guidelines on Applying for Student-Designed Major in the 2020-2 Semester   ※ School Regulations: Constitution of Korea University, Chapter 4, Article 35(Classification of Majors) & Academic Operations Regulations Chapter 6, Article 3(Student-Designed Major) & Guideline for Student-Designed Major   The ‘Student-Designed Major’ is designed to accommodate the interests and career goals of students with broad interdisciplinary interests that cannot be satisfied within one of the traditional Korea University majors. Upon satisfying the graduation requirements of both first and Student-Designed Major, students with Student-Designed Major shall be conferred with the bachelor’s degree of each major. Curriculum of Student- Designed Major should be created by combining a minimum of three Korea University majors’ and must contain 36 major credits or more in total under the guidance of academic advisor of Student-Designed Major.   I. Application Information    1. Application Dates     Applicant shall submit the application to the department office of applicant’s first major via the application procedures indicated above in ① and ② by May 13(Wed.) 2020, 17:00. ① Applicant designs curriculum under the guidance of Academic advisor of Student- Designed Major and fills in the applications.   ② Each council for Student-Designed Major reviews the application and submit the result to the department office of applicant’s  first major.  ※ Academic advisor for Student-Designed Major will be assigned after a consultation with a student’s 1st major’s head of department.    2. Announcement of successful applicants     - Date: June 26(Fri.), 2020, 14:00    - Venue: KU Portal (http://portal.korea.ac.kr) - Announcement board of “Academic Calendar”    3. Note    1) The mandatory regulation of completing a second major is applied to students entering from 2004 onward. Students subject to this regulation must complete one of the following:      (1) Intensive Major course of first major, (2) Double Major, (3) Interdisciplinary Major, (4) Student-Designed Major.    2) Students who withdraw second major program before applying for Student-Designed Major and fail to enter the independent major, then they should take an intensive major course in their first major.    3) Intensive major course of first major assumes a similar form to the existing single major system.          4) Among successful applicants those only who retain applicants eligibility conditions during the application semester (ex. registration, approval of pre-taken courses, designation of Student-Designed Major courses, course registration) will be accepted to purse Student-Designed  Major from the following semester.   Ⅱ. Basic Information for application   1. Eligibility    ① Under the Constitution of Korea University, Article 35, applicants should have registered for more than three semesters(those who do not have been designated their first major are ineligible). ※ Students who apply for a Mid-semester leave of absence during the semester of application will be disqualified even after being announced as successful applicants.    ② Transfer students can apply after completing a minimum of one semester at Korea University.    ③ Students on a leave of absence are ineligible to apply for a student-designed major.    ④ Applicant designs curriculum under the guidance of academic advisor of student-designed  major and fills in and submit the applications to the department office of applicant’s first major within the application period.    ⑤ Students pursuing double/interdisciplinary major as second major or students in engineering authentication certificate program are able to apply for Student-designed Major. Double           /interdisciplinary major will be cancelled when they are accepted to the Student-designed Major.   2. Application scope and curriculum    ① All undergraduate students including transfer students are eligible to apply for Student-Designed Major.    ② The curriculum of Student-Designed Major shall be designed including the courses of       student’s first major(with the exception of major requirement courses. Courses completed for student designed major should not coincide with courses of the first major, Also, an it shall not be considered as a minor.   3. limitation on Student-Designed Major and standard of approval    ① The number of Student-Designed Major that one professor can tutor shall be limited to 3.    ② The number of students that one professor can tutor shall be limited 10.    ③ Selection standard shall be determined by each Student-Designed Major council and approved by Curriculum Committee.   4. Application Process    ① Student-Designed Major students shall design the curriculum under the guidance of academic advisor and should obtain the permission of the university president after adhering to          certain selection procedure.    ② Details of selection procedure mentioned above paragraph 1 shall be set forth separately in Guidelines for Student-Designed Major or council for student-designed major.   5. Credit completion and Approval    ① The method of completing each Student-Designed Major shall be determined by each major’s regulation of curriculum.    ② Student-Designed Major student shall complete the minimum of 36 credits or more contained within the approved curriculum.    ③ Student-Designed Major courses which students have already completed before the approval  of the application  shall be approved as student-designed major credits.    ④ Courses completed for Student-Designed Major can  not be approved as first major, minor, or dual degree.       6. Withdrawal from Student-Designed Major    ① Students entering Korea university before 2003: Those who intend on withdrawing from Student-Designed Major and graduate only with single major should submit a request for a withdrawal at least one month before the end of the semester(by January 20 or July 20) and complete the graduation requirement of their single major.    ② Students entering from 2004 onward: Those who withdraw from Student-Designed Major    should take another second major(or intensive major) under Academic Operations               Regulations Article 56.    ③ Students intended applying for another second major must complete withdrawal procedure of their second major during the second major application period (Student-Designed Major applicants can withdraw from their previous second major after being accepted to Student-Designed Major). Reapplication for second major is allowed only once. However, students who withdraw from an Student-Designed Major after having been accepted shall be ineligible to apply again).    ④ Courses taken for Student-Designed Major shall be classified as general electives if a student withdraw from it.   7. Eligibility Review and Approval of Graduation    ① The academic department which the chairman of the Student-Designed Major council belongs to, is responsible for reviewing the eligibility of their graduation.    ② Students pursuing an Student-Designed Major may graduate only upon satisfying the graduation requirements of both first and Student-Designed Majors.   8. Degree Conferral    Upon satisfying the graduation requirements of both first and Student-Designed Major, students with independent major shall be conferred with the bachelor’s degree of each major.           9. Certificates Student-Designed Major degree shall be transcribed on each certificate as follows:    ① Certificate of Studentship: First and Student-Designed Major    ② Academic Transcript: First and Student-Designed Major; Courses will be classified.    ③ Certificate of Graduation: First and Student-Designed Major

★Application for TNT PROGRAM in 2020-1★   Here's a guide for the KUBS Tutor & Tutee program, a business school tutoring program. Based on the fact that many students are doing part-time jobs after school through private tutoring, we would like to run a program where students can give tutors to junior and foreign students who have difficulties in their major classes on campus and receive scholarships. We will recruit mentors who can help students with their major studies, and mentees who want to get help to improve exchanges and their grades.   Online lectures is going to last until the first week of April. Offline lectures are expected to open from April 6, but this situation can be changed at any time. So please aware that TNT PROGRAM may not be available in a study room.  I'd like to inform you that each tutor and tutor might need to use online platforms such as KakaoTalk Face Talk, Skype and Google Hangout.   Application Period : from 23th Mar to 30th Mar (31st 00:00 >> closed)  Program Period : from April 13th to June 19th. (Not on national holiday, mid-exam) 1. Tutor  1) Students who have an average GPA 3.75 or higher for the entire semester and the very last semester. 2) Students with a GPA 4.0 or higher in tutoring subject.  3) Only 3rd and 4th graders can apply. 4) Applying for the maximum 3 subjects. 5) Selection considering GPA and STUDY PLAN. Submission documents after selection: 1 copy of the transcript and a pledge(TBA)   2. Tutee 1) Business School students who are having difficulty in major classes (foreigner, exchange student, free major, dual major avaliable) 2) Students with an average GPA less than 3.0 for the entire or last semester 3) No grade limit, foreign students first. 4) Applying for the maximum 2 subjects. 5) Selection considering GPA and STUDY PLAN. TNT Program Overview     1) 1 TUutor can be allocated to max 3 tutee students.     2) Tutoring hours must be either 24 hours or 48 hours per semester (2 hours or 4 hours per week)     3) Tutee may apply for up to max 2 courses per semester (only majors required available)     ※ Each Tutor and tutee can participate in 2 courses per semester. However, total hours must be either 24 or 48 hours.     4) At the beginning of the program, tutor, tutee, and TA must have a consultation to organize schedules(on weekdays, 9:00 - 21:00)     In case of a schedule change, TA must be notified at least 3 days earlier. Note that you can change your schedule only one time per semester.     5) Tutors are required to submit monthly reports and tutoring time on the last day of every months.     6) Tutors and Tutee are required to submit a final report at the end of the TNT program. Also, submitting final survey is required.   5.  Notes for Tutee     A. If a tutee leaves the TNT program during the semester, the tutee will not be allowed to apply for the program from the next semester.          Penalties may be given to applications for any KUBS scholarships AND student exchange program.     B. Tutees may participate in the tutoring for up to 4 courses during their whole enrolled semester in KU.   6. Benefits for Tutor     A. Tutor student will be awarded a scholarship after the submission of the weekly reports on the last day of the month (25,000 per hour)     B. A certificate will be issued when the final report is submitted.      C. "A certificate of 'Excellence' Tutorial Activities" is given to tutors who lead excellent results from their tutee and receive excellent reviews from TA.     ※ The scholarship will be withheld according to the tutor's manner. Application for Early Graduation ◎ Regulations and rules for the Early Graduation    ※ 「Academic regulations and rules」 Article 41(Graduation Requirements) and Article 42(Degree Conferral) of Section 4 of 「The Constitution of Korea University」, and Article 56(Basic Requirements for Graduation), Article 57(Credits Requirements for Graduation), Article 58(Early Graduation: General), and Article 59(Early Graduation: Special) of Section 5 of 「Academic Regulations」   ◎ Overview of Early Graduation 1. Eligibility: To be eligible for early graduation students must satisfy requirements below 1) Complete a minimum of 17(18) credits each semester (a minimum of 15 credits for semester exchange at overseas universities) 2) Complete a minimum of 108 credits (112 credits for departments/division requiring 135 credits for graduation requirements/ 117 credits for departments/division requiring 140 credits for graduation requirements) and Obtain a cumulative of GPA 4.00 or higher without an “F” grade. 3) A cumulative of GPA is calculated based on all courses that had been registered.   2.   Guidelines for Minor Application, Fall 2019       ※「Korea University Constitution」Article 36,「Administration of Academic Affairs 」the first clause of Article 7   - A minor requires 21 credit hours apart from your first major - A second major does not count towards a minor, and a minor is not indicated on graduation certificate. - An incomplete minor cannot be the ground for deferring graduation.     1. Eligibility: Students who (1) have specified their first major, and (2) have completed more than three semesters, and (3) are enrolled in Spring 2020 ※ Applications by students who are on leave of absence on the corresponding semester will be ceased.   2. Applicable Areas of Study:   1) Students may not apply for a minor from the department of their first major or relevant (cross-listed) course. 2) Students may apply for courses from Anam Campus that are not open at Sejong Campus as a minor. 3) However, if the relevant course is opened both at Anam and Sejong Campus, students must register for a minor from their designated campus. 4) A minor from the College of Education can only be granted to students whose first major is from the College of Education. ※ Note: A ratio of the number of students taking minor courses at the College of Education is 10%, applicable to entering class of 2006 and 2007. 1. Eligibility  a. KU student who has earned 102(106) or more credits and registered 7 or more regular semesters.  b. Transfer student with a Bachelor's degree, should be classified as 4th year student.  c. student in senior year pursuing dual degree is not eligible.   2. Key Points  a. Maximum 6 credits can be applied.  b. Credit withdrawal is allowed only once during the entire school years.  c. Courses have not yet evaluated should be counted out of bound.  d. Any requisite courses (general education core courses, major core courses, college of education courses, etc) can not     apply for credit withdrawal.  e. On the academic tran, “W” will be typed on the courses withdrawn instead of the original grades.  f. Students can not apply for credit withdrawal for repeated courses.     February 2020 Cancellation of KUBS Commencement Ceremony / Announcements regarding Graduate List Distribution and Cap & Gown Rental       1. February 2020 (2019 1H) Cancellation of KUBS Commencement Ceremony   Dear students and KU family,   Please kindly be informed that the 2020 KUBS Commencement Ceremony, originally scheduled on February 25th (Tue), has been cancelled amid the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Please understand that Korea University is striving every day to take precautions as much as possible before the accident takes place.   2. Modification of Korean/English Name for Degree Certificate (Exclusively for the students graduating in Feb 2020)   - Korean/English Names are displayed at : KU Portal > Registration/Graduation > University Registration Inquiries (For English Name, should check capitals, spellings and spacings)   - As both Korean/English Name in Portal will be printed in the Degree Certificate, students should check their applications beforehand. Modifications after the release of certificate are not allowed.   - If any modifications for one’s name is needed, fill out ‘기재사항정정서 (Request form for modification of personal details)’ to csm0117@korea.ac.kr until February 16 (Sun). (Students major in Business Adminsitration or dual degree students only; Students in Business double major must contact their primary department office.)   - Important: Once the certification is issued (on February 17), any details cannot be changed for any reasons.   3. Interviews for the outbound exchange students in the second semester of 2020 will be held on February 3 and February 4. 1.
