Boosting confidence in job search … Career Development Center holds Career Week
KUBS Career Development Center held the 1st Career Week.
The 1st Career Week was held on October 30th (Friday), hosted by KUBS (Dean= Bae, Johngseok) and organized by KUBS Career Development Center. The 1st Career Week invited career consultant for special lectures on job preparation strategies, ways to write letters of self-introduction, developing strategies by types of interviews. Various corporate personnel were also invited to introduce industries, job functions, and current issues.
In the morning, consultant Kim Tae Jong gave a special lecture on the topic of ‘Big Picture of Employment: understanding employment by the essence and changing trend’. Due to COVID-19, the lecture was held online and 40 students participated, showing high interest.
Mr. Kim began by saying, “I will introduce the essence of employment and changing trend based on my experience as a career consultant for various types of positions in companies.” He said, “finding a job is like matching a puzzle.” He explained that “improving overall capability, not just in one area, is important.”
He mentioned that “there has been widespread changes in various areas related to efficacy and efficiency, such as AI interviewers” but said that “an objective understanding of yourself is still very important.” Therefore, he emphasized that “analysis on industry, companies, job functions, yourself, and the system is needed to clearly show the reason of why you applied.”
Also, he pointed out △diversity △new interview tools △AI △data as the big 4 that will hugely change the job market. According to Mr. Kim, companies prefer people who have △clear opinions and evidence △excellent communication skills △alignment with organizational culture and management philosophy. To be qualified, “one must be suited to the job and organization and have suitable personality.”
In the afternoon, Terra Fintech director Shin Kyeong Min gave a special lecture titled ‘Human resources in the untact era, organizational culture and employment.’ Fifty students actively participated in this event that was held both online and offline.
Director Shin introduced changes in leadership, communication, work management in the untact era and emphasized the importance of “collaboration, trust, and agile mindset.” Also, he pointed out the positive sides of change such as “various opportunities thanks to online employment process.”
The audience actively asked questions during the events. Asked about the opinion on the interview through AI, he replied: “I do not prefer AI interviews because there are aspects such as leadership and personal characteristic that are hard for AI to catch, but there are benefits in efficiency in comprehending one’s job suitability.” To a question about the features of a competent applicant, director Shin further answered △positivity △expertise △global capability △team work △understanding trends △integrity as important features.
KUBS runs its own Career Development Center to help students in searching for jobs and planning their career paths. Career Development Center organizes career related seminars, special lectures based on student needs and provides essential aid in job search and career paths. The 2nd special lecture, out of total four events of Career Week, will be held on November 20th.
