[Entrepreneurship Academy Lecture On-Demand] “Coding Now Done by ‘Vibe’”

“Coding Now Done by ‘Vibe’”... Special Lecture on AX-Based Startup Insights   On March 17, the Entrepreneurship Academy Lecture On-Demand was held, hosted by Korea University Startup Institute. The session featured Malacca, an AX strategist and AX builder, who delivered a hands-on lecture titled “Vibe Coding Practice: From Planning to MVP Deployment (Gemini & Firebase),” combining AI-based development methods with real-world startup experience.    The lecture drew strong interest from students and was held across two classrooms in the Hyundai Motor Hall. Approximately 170 participants attended, reaching maximum capacity. Although each classroom accommodates around 100 people, attendance exceeded seating capacity, with even stair areas being utilized. To accommodate all participants, a live Zoom broadcast was conducted simultaneously, allowing students to join from both classrooms.      Participants were highly engaged in the hands-on session, following along with coding exercises during the lecture. Students had the opportunity to build simple programs in real time, gaining practical experience with AI-based development processes.    During the lecture, AI-based processes were introduced, emphasizing that AI is not merely a tool but a key driver of AX (AI Transformation), transforming corporate workflows and organizational culture. While highlighting the high productivity of AI “vibe coding,” Malacca also noted the need for safeguards such as “context engineering” and “harness” to address the challenges of maintaining complex systems. He further emphasized that the essence of entrepreneurship lies not in technology-driven thinking, but in validating hypotheses through customer interviews. He advised that “starting quickly, failing, and learning fosters a virtuous cycle of growth driven by execution.”      During the session, Malacca utilized “Jjap Slack,” a tool he personally developed using vibe coding, to facilitate real-time interaction through live comments, enabling participants to ask questions and receive feedback instantly. The session was particularly meaningful in that it was conducted using the same harness template provided to students, allowing them to work with programs at a level applicable to real-world practice.    This “Entrepreneurship Academy Lecture On-Demand 1” highlighted both the evolving role of developers in the AX era and the practical capabilities required for entrepreneurship, offering students integrated insights that bridge technology and business perspectives. The Korea University Startup Institute plans to continue expanding hands-on, practice-oriented startup education programs.

“We will continue to support all members of KUBS to promote the research environment."

[Interview with the Institute for Business Research and Education]   “We will continue to support all members of KUBS to promote the research environment."   Professor Kim Joonghyuk took office as the 34th president of the Institute for Business Research and Education in last September. The met with President Kim Joonghyuk, who will become a new head and lead the performance of Institute for Business Research and Education for about two years, and heard his thoughts on his inauguration, including his vision and philosophy of operation.     1. Congratulations on the inauguration of the 34th President of the Institute for Business Research and Education. Please tell us how you feel. The Institute for Business Research and Education (hereinafter referred to as IBRE) was established in 1958, and this year alone has been 64 years. Knowing the great status of IBRE at the time when I was attending KUBS, it is very meaningful and an honor for me to be the president of IBRE. However, on the other hand, as the history is long, it is true that the responsibility and burden come to a great extent. I think I spent time constantly thinking about the status and projects of IBRE because I thought I shouldn’t stop at the given task.      2. The Institute for Business Research and Education, founded in 1958, can be said to be the beginning of the Korean Business Management Research Institute. I think the role of corporate management researchers in the past and present may have changed a lot. What has changed in status and role so far? In the mid-to-late 1980s, there were many doctor-level researchers belonging to IBRE, and their status and social contributions were significant enough to receive exemption from military service. When there was no consulting firm in Korea, a lot of corporate consulting was conducted through IBRE, which was the first management research institute in Korea. IBRE was also in charge of the electricity bill calculation project of the Korea Electric Power Corporation. There was a great influence not only in terms of the size of the institution but also in terms of its role, and beyond research, various activities were conducted in practical terms through frequent interactions with companies. But now, IBRE is focused on research naturally according to the trend, so it usually focusses on academic research support. Compared to its past status and scale, it has been considerably reduced and has many limitations, but we should try to secure its status through practical research support or educational programs.      3. If you have any goals or major tasks you are planning during your tenure in the philosophy of operation of the Institute for Business Research and Education, please tell us. First of all, I would like to continue 'Brownbag Seminar' and 'Joint Data Construction Support for KUBS Collaborative Research' among the recent business contents.  First of all, the Brownbag Seminar was designed to meet the need for interdisciplinary research rather than independent research by detailed major within the business administration. As the corporate environment rapidly changes, there was a need for researchers to expand rather than be limited to specific areas, and we decided to hold a Brownbag seminar to create this atmosphere within KUBS. Twice a month, we have a session to present the research of the faculty regardless of the major. From the presentation of very light ideas to the in-depth content of which analysis has been completed, seminars including everything will be held regardless of the completeness. Open to all majors, you can share what research you do in other majors or what theories or phenomena are highly related to your research topic, and it provides time to look at them from various angles. About 20 faculty members participates each time these days, and it is now quite active and should continue. Another project that supports interdisciplinary collaboration and research is 'Joint Data Construction Support for KUBS Collaborative Research.' We provide support for when a researcher wants to build data in various major fields, not just in specific major fields. During my term of office, I will try to revitalize these two projects further. In addition, we would like to expand the scope of future projects to research support including graduate students and undergraduates as well as teachers. Outstanding universities abroad also have many opportunities for undergraduate students to research, and during the vacation, they often hold various promotions related to research, such as providing programs for students to assist professors in research. As a result, naturally, students hold high value for research, and students are interested in "going to graduate school" as well as getting a job unconditionally after graduation. I am also thinking about how to provide research opportunities to undergraduates as the President of IBRE.  And as we've been in the midst of a major shift in the Fourth Industrial Revolution for years, there's a lot of need for data analytics. It will be able to expand into multiple businesses in collaboration with CDTB in the business. In addition, we are considering support measures to share and collaborate with various centers such as the KUBS ESG Research Center.     4. In the post-COVID-19 era, what direction do you think the Institute for Business Research and Education should move in?  It is true that COVID-19 had a great impact on society, economy, and culture, but I don't think it was enough to change the role or direction of IBRE. Through the COVID-19 situation, the conservative and difficult-to-change "university system" has been forced to change due to external shocks. There have been many changes, such as non-face-to-face classes and video conferences, and IBRE has been able to use them well to accelerate the progress of the project. In the case of the Brownbag Seminar I mentioned earlier, the participation rate have increased by conducting it online. If universities actively utilize the changes that they were forced to accept in the COVID-19 era, I think it will play a positive role in expanding the role of the foundation.

"My college life" of four KUBS students

[Talk with KUBS Students]   "My college life" of four KUBS students            From drinking with fellow students, on-campus relationships, exciting meetings, and GPA management… Prospective students who are just before admission at KUBS will be excited with fantasies and expectations about university. To solve their questions about their dream of "university life," we met four colorful KUBS students Kim Minsung (Business ‘18), Kim Gahyun (Business ‘19), Karimova Marbelyuda (Business ‘20), and Jung Jaekyung (Business ‘22) to hear about their "real" college life.   Q Please introduce yourself briefly and tell us why you chose the business department. Jung Jaekyung (Business ‘22, hereinafter referred to as Jaekyung) | I'm a freshman in the class of 2022.During my first year of high school, I found the job of a brand marketer attractive, which naturally led me to dream of entering the business department. Karimova Marbelyuda (Business ’20, hereinafter referred to as Marbelyuda) | I'm Karimova Marbelyuda from Turkmenistan. I am interested in business and management, so I chose the business department. Before I came to Korea University, I worked in the marketing department of a company and also worked at a startup. I also like to talk to various people, so I learned many languages, and I chose this department because I thought I could use all the languages and abilities I have in the business department.  Kim Gahyun (Business ‘19, hereinafter referred to as Gahyun) | I'm Kim Gahyun, and I’m in the class of 2019. I graduated from a high school overbroad and was able to take a course called 'Business Management' at middle school, and I chose the business department because it suited my aptitude. Kim Minsung (Business ‘18, hereinafter referred to as Minsung) | I am Kim Minsung, a third-year student in the class of 2018. Even though I am a liberal arts student, I like math, so I vaguely thought that business would suit my aptitude and chose the business department because I wanted to work in the financial sector.   Q Was there any difference between your dream of college life in high school and your actual college life after coming to KUBS? Jaekyung | The college I dreamed of when I was in high school had a lot to do with 'freedom', 'romance' and so on. So, I thought I would travel a lot and study a lot less when I entered college. But in reality, there are more assignments than I imagined, and the amount of study during the exam period seems to exceed that of high school students. Of course, it is different from high school in that I study only the fields I am interested in and like, but there is a difference in that college does not leave you to play. Minsung | It was rather the opposite for me. I don't know if it's because I entered KUBS before COVID-19, but I was surprised that everyone was playing much more than I thought. So, when I saw some of my friends, I wondered, "How did they get accepted to this school?” But on the other hand, seeing them try hard to achieve their goals once they set their minds, I think I also tried harder not to fall behind.   Q What was the most helpful thing in your KUBS life? Gahyun | I think internal and external activities were the most helpful. Especially, I think for me especially the experience of academic conference helped me very much, and I think I was able to grow a lot from it. Since I entered the conference in the second grade, I didn't really know anything, but I learned a lot and had a really good time while working on projects with actual companies. In addition, outside of school, the Dream Scholarship, a scholarship for living expenses at business schools, was very helpful. I used to not have enough time to study because of tutoring, but with the support of living expenses, I was able to concentrate on studying because the burden was greatly reduced. KUBS has an exceptionally good scholarship system, so you can get it easily if you meet the conditions. Marbelyuda | I'd like to pick 'Free Curriculum'. It is to helpful that I can focus on the areas I am interested in because I can take the classes I want to take and choose my major.  Minsung | I think it's 'Relationships'. As I did various activities such as working in KUBS class, a band, and a KUBS ambassador, I naturally became to know more people. Thanks to these people, there are many things to laugh about at school. I am preparing for CPA now, and I think I gain a lot of confidence and enjoy studying because of them.         Q What course do you recommend for KUBS students? Jaekyung | I'm still a freshman, so I'm taking major and liberal arts courses. The subjects I take in the first grade consist of subjects that help me draw a big picture of the business administration, and among them, I recommend Professor Park Kyungsam's . I usually had a vague difficulty with statistics subjects, but the professor instructs in a very easy way, so I can understand them well. Marbelyuda | I liked Professor Hwang Junho's . The professor is very fluent in English, and especially, I'm the only foreign student in class, so he contacted me separately to tell him if there are any difficulties, so it was very helpful. Minsung | I recommend Professor Na Hyunseung. The Topic Course lecture is a class where the instructor changes every time, and I took the class when Professor Na Hyunseung gave the lecture. Professor Na's Topic Course Lecture is about how to analyze the synergy between mergers and acquisitions and the resulting synergy and evaluation of the company value. During the semester, I was able to learn a lot by doing individual and team tasks to analyze four cases. And the cases required us to not only use what we learned in class, but also all the accounting and financial knowledge I had learned in the business department while considering the social and economic aspects at the time, so it was a great opportunity to think in various aspects during analysis. Gahyun | Professor Yoo Sijin's . When I was in class, I learned how to write a program called SPSS for the first time, and it was very helpful. The professor uses SPSS as a team project to solve questions that can be asked in real business, and it felt very difficult during the project, but there was a lot that I learned after I completed it.   Q. Do you have any resolutions or challenges for your future college life? Jaekyung | I'd like to participate in the Startup Express, a business start-up competition that I’ve been interested in, and achieve excellent results. Since Korea University Business School does not spare support for startups, I would like to win the award for my own business and move into the Startup Station and fulfill my dream of starting a business. Marvelous | I would like to participate in a case competition called 'KUBS Challenge' held by the International Office of Business Administration. If you win a prize, you will be greedier because you are qualified to participate in an international case analysis competition as a representative of Korea University. Marbelyuda | I would like to participate in a case competition called 'KUBS Challenge' held by the International Office of KUBS. If you win a prize, you are qualified to participate in an international case analysis competition as a representative of Korea University, so I feel much more motivated to win.  Gahyun | I want to do everything I can. Especially this vacation period and next year, I'd like to try a contest. Outside of studies, I don't want to miss things that I can only do when I'm an undergraduate student, such as Ypsilenti, Koyonjeon, and MT. Minsung | I'm currently studying for CPA and I'm going to take an exam in February next year. I want to pass the exam next year and get rid of my anxiety!   Q Lastly, what are the tips for "Wise College Life" to newcoming students who are about to start college life next year? Jaekyung | When you enter a university, you can get away from your long life of studying and start to think deeply about yourself. I think it would be good to spend the first year thinking about and exploring what you want to do. Marbelyuda | I would like to say the same. I think it would be good to think deeply about what you want to get from KUBS and make your own plan. There's so much you can do here, but you can't do everything. Knowing in advance what you want to get makes it easier to choose. And if you are a foreigner, please approach other Korean students first. Korean students won’t come to you first. Gahyun | I hope you experience it all. Play hard, but don't miss out on studying too. Just because you're a freshman, I hope you give up the idea that "even if I take a challenge now, I won't be able to do it anyway because I’m in lower grades," and try various things and find out what's right for you and gain experience. Minsung | Most of all, I want you to play a lot. When I was in 1st and 2nd grade, I belonged to various organizations, hung out with people, and attended all the events. These memories seem to be a great comfort in hard times. When I had a hard time in the army, I was comforted by the pictures of my happy times, and even when I meet my friends after a long time, I feel refreshed when I share my old memories.

KUBS wins the “2022 CEMS Business Project of the Year Award”

KUBS wins the “2022 CEMS Business Project of the Year Award” Selected among 34 CEMS member schools, the first non-European school to receive the award   The Global MIM program (hereinafter referred to as G-MIM), co-hosted by KUBS (Dean = Sangyong KIM) and CEMS MIM, won the “2022 CEMS Business Project of the Year (hereinafter referred to as the Business Project of the Year Award).”     The “Business Project of the Year Award” is part of the core program of CEMS MIM, "Business Project," and selects and awards the best projects among 34 CEMS member schools every year. Among more than 200 projects, the G-MIM program at Korea University was selected as the winner of the award this year. This award is very meaningful in that it is the first award among non-European member schools in CEMS history. The award was given at the CEMS Graduation Ceremony held in Cairo, Egypt on December 2nd (Fri), and Wonsang Yu, KUBS professor, and Laura Kassandra Kammin, a student representative, took the podium.        CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education (CEMS), which refers to the world's prestigious business school association, can only qualify as a member school when the school is the best business school in the country, and only Korea University Business School holds the qualification. Korea University acquired full membership in 2015, and CEMS members include △ Cornell University of the U.S. △ The London School of Economics and Political Science of the UK △ HEC Paris of France △ Ivey Business School of Canada △ Keio University of Japan △ Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management of China.   KUBS is the only regular member in Korea of the CEMS Global Alliance, the world's prestigious business school association, and is currently operating the Global MIM (Master in Management) program. The G-MIM course allows students to obtain multiple CEMS MIM (Master in International Management) certificates along with a master's degree in management at Korea University. After completing one semester of Korea University's Global MIM (Master in Management) course, students must complete one semester at one of the CEMS member schools in agreement with KU. The course also requires 8 weeks of overseas internships and 3-language certification, which is practical to foster international sensibilities of students and build their global career.   The theme of this year's award-winning business project is "Marketing Strategy for Nature Co-Design Creativity Education Program for EU Secondary Schools." A team of 5 students from 4 CEMS universities carried out the project in Korea University G-MIM's "Global Business Project" class, and completed the project in cooperation with its partner, YOZMA, under the guidance of KUBS professor Wonsang Yoo. In this class, a total of six teams have carried out corporate projects such as with Hyundai Motor, LG Chem, AmorePacific, Cartier, and Qualcomm.   G-MIM's unique "Global Business Project" class is a project that solves actual business problems with CEMS partners or social partners and is a mandatory course. Each project team typically consists of 3 to 5 CEMS students, and the project is under the supervision of corporates and advisors. Among the projects made in this class, outstanding projects are submitted to CEMS, and the team that wins the Business Project of the Year Award is finally selected through strict screening by the CEMS Committee.   Dean Sangyong Kim said, "Winning the Business Project of the Year Award is a very high achievement of KUBS as we are competing with the world's best business schools," and also said, “We would like to express our gratitude to the students who have worked so hard on the project, and we will give full support to students to ensure good results in next year too.”

KUBS Professor Woochan Kim awarded ‘50 Excellent Academic/Research Support Project’

KUBS Professor Woochan Kim awarded ‘50 Excellent Academic/Research Support Project’     KUBS Professor Woochan Kim was awarded the ’50 Excellent Academic/Research Support Project’ by the Ministry of Education.   The awards are given to 50 excellent research projects among 12.000 projects provided with government funds last year. The winning projects get additional points in the national research project selection process. The awards were promoted to inspire passion for research and motivate continuous research development by selecting excellent achievements.   The project from Prof. Kim was on ‘The effect of enterprise grouping on the enterprise investment efficiency in the industry other than group’. He empirically proved two things using domestic enterprise data. First, the enhancement of the inner capital market to lend funds between enterprises in the group would decrease investment efficiency by making it difficult to raise external capital from enterprises outside the group. Secondly, the enhancement of protecting investors like minority shareholders would alleviate those negative effects above. The project also highlighted enterprises outside the group, not only enterprises inside the group when studying the effects of group’s inner capital market. Also, the project was reviewed that it provided another important reason to the authorities why enhancement on protecting investors is essential.    Meanwhile, 7 projects from Korea University were selected in fields of Humanities and Society (Humanities), Humanities and Society (Social Science), and Science and Engineering (ICT·Convergence Research) marking overwhelmingly the most among the universities in Korea. Research ecosystem that motivates convergence research in various fields also remains in the background on why excellent projects from Korea University were selected as the top 0.4% of the total. Also, the environment that enables creative research along with an atmosphere that encourages and supports excellent researchers played a crucial role.

’MBA Lounge’ Opened for MBA students

'MBA Lounge' Opened for MBA students   The opening ceremony of ‘MBA Lounge’, a rest area for MBA students and its alumni, was held on October 31st. 『MBA 30-30 Alma School Development Committee』 along with previous KUBS Dean Johngseok Bae and the previous faculty attended the ceremony.     ‘MBA Lounge’ built in Hyundai Motor Hall Room 413, would be opened as a rest area for MBA students and its alumni. The lounge, around 69 square meters wide, is well-prepared with a table, sink, and kitchen utensils. The lounge is accessible to all MBA students and alumni with the approval of the student council of each MBA course. Especially there are two artworks exhibited in the lounge: 『Variable Consciousness』 by Hur Hwang, well known as ‘white artist’ and 『Fliessend』 by German famous artist Günther Uecker. These artworks were donated by MBA Alumnus Eunsuk Kim (78th K-MBA Class) on last October, celebrating the completion of ‘MBA Lounge’.   The ‘MBA Lounge’ was built thanks to donations from 『MBA 30-30 Alma School Development Committee』. A signboard with the names of 28 donators had been set up inside the lounge, after about 3 months of interior construction. Guests who attended the ceremony had a signboard unveiling event holding scissors together. There had been applause when the shade fell off and the names of donators were unveiled.     Yongkeun Yoo, previous KUBS Associate Dean, who hosted the ceremony said “Thanks to 『MBA 30-30 Alma School Development Committee』 members and staff who helped successful completion on opening”. Furthermore, previous KUBS Dean Bae said “KUBS will not settle on present achievements as ‘MBA Lounge’ opening, but will step forward towards bigger goals” and “We will provide more support to mark the 60th anniversary of MBA more meaningful next year”.
