Stadium Filled with the Red Victory Song... Rugby, a Resounding Victory Achieved.

 

On the second day of the 2023 Ko-Yon Games, September 9th, the matches were held at the Goyang Stadium. Even at 11 a.m, the stadium was filled with a sea of red, as fellow students brimmed with tension and excitement, hoping for a comeback. 

 

 

The first match, rugby, was an overwhelming victory with a score of 41-27. Korea University was in a difficult situation, with Yonsei University scoring successive points. Until the 32nd minute of the first half, Yonsei University continued to dominate, leading with the score 14-5. However, in the 33rd minute of the first half, Moonkyu Lee (Physical Education '22) made a powerful run to the goal line, scoring a try, and Hyunjin Kim (Physical Education '21) seized the opportunity to successfully kick, narrowing the score to 12-14. With Hunjin Kim’s successful kick following the try, Korea University successfully staged a comeback. 

  

 

In the second half, Korea University's strong performance continued. Tries by Moonkyu Lee, Hyunjin Kim’s conversion kick, and Kim Won-joo's (Physical Education ‘23) scoring added to the excitement, and the victory song echoed throughout the stadium. Leading the attack towards Yonsei University's goal line until the very end of the game, Korea University secured an overwhelming victory with a final score of 41-27. With a combined record of 2 wins and 2 losses, the Ko-Yon Games score was back to square one.  

 

 

The rugby team's dominant victory filled the stadium with excitement. Students sent enthusiastic cheers to the victorious rugby team. Songheon Chae (Business '23), who watched the rugby match, said, "This is my first time coming to the annual Ko-Yon games and it's so enjoyable that I want to keep coming even after I graduate." Youngeun Kim (Business '23) added, "It was so much fun to cheer, and I enjoyed feeling the passion with my fellow students."
