KUBS wins the “2022 CEMS Business Project of the Year Award”

Selected among 34 CEMS member schools, the first non-European school to receive the award

The Global MIM program (hereinafter referred to as G-MIM), co-hosted by KUBS (Dean = Sangyong KIM) and CEMS MIM, won the “2022 CEMS Business Project of the Year (hereinafter referred to as the Business Project of the Year Award).”

The “Business Project of the Year Award” is part of the core program of CEMS MIM, "Business Project," and selects and awards the best projects among 34 CEMS member schools every year. Among more than 200 projects, the G-MIM program at Korea University was selected as the winner of the award this year. This award is very meaningful in that it is the first award among non-European member schools in CEMS history. The award was given at the CEMS Graduation Ceremony held in Cairo, Egypt on December 2nd (Fri), and Wonsang Yu, KUBS professor, and Laura Kassandra Kammin, a student representative, took the podium.

CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education (CEMS), which refers to the world's prestigious business school association, can only qualify as a member school when the school is the best business school in the country, and only Korea University Business School holds the qualification. Korea University acquired full membership in 2015, and CEMS members include  Cornell University of the U.S.  The London School of Economics and Political Science of the UK  HEC Paris of France  Ivey Business School of Canada  Keio University of Japan  Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management of China.

KUBS is the only regular member in Korea of the CEMS Global Alliance, the world's prestigious business school association, and is currently operating the Global MIM (Master in Management) program. The G-MIM course allows students to obtain multiple CEMS MIM (Master in International Management) certificates along with a master's degree in management at Korea University. After completing one semester of Korea University's Global MIM (Master in Management) course, students must complete one semester at one of the CEMS member schools in agreement with KU. The course also requires 8 weeks of overseas internships and 3-language certification, which is practical to foster international sensibilities of students and build their global career.

The theme of this year's award-winning business project is "Marketing Strategy for Nature Co-Design Creativity Education Program for EU Secondary Schools." A team of 5 students from 4 CEMS universities carried out the project in Korea University G-MIM's "Global Business Project" class, and completed the project in cooperation with its partner, YOZMA, under the guidance of KUBS professor Wonsang Yoo. In this class, a total of six teams have carried out corporate projects such as with Hyundai Motor, LG Chem, AmorePacific, Cartier, and Qualcomm.

G-MIM's unique "Global Business Project" class is a project that solves actual business problems with CEMS partners or social partners and is a mandatory course. Each project team typically consists of 3 to 5 CEMS students, and the project is under the supervision of corporates and advisors. Among the projects made in this class, outstanding projects are submitted to CEMS, and the team that wins the Business Project of the Year Award is finally selected through strict screening by the CEMS Committee.

Dean Sangyong Kim said, "Winning the Business Project of the Year Award is a very high achievement of KUBS as we are competing with the world's best business schools," and also said, “We would like to express our gratitude to the students who have worked so hard on the project, and we will give full support to students to ensure good results in next year too.”
