KUBS (Dean = Doo-Hee Lee) and Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Faculty of Business, Economics and Policy Studies (FBEPS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for building a partnership concerning research and teaching on June 24th (Mon). The signing was especially significant due to the fact that it was held as a part of the Asia Pacific Leaders Education Programme 2013, hosted by UBD. KUBS Dean Doo-Hee Lee and FBEPS Dean Dr. Joyce Teo Siew Yean attended the event as representatives of each school as well as figures such as the Brunei Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Awang Abu Bakar bin Hj Apong, UBD Vice-President and Vice-Minister of Education Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain bin Hj Hanafi, and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Brunei Byung-Koo Choi, underlining the national interests concerning the MOU.
Dean Doo-Hee Lee said, “The role of the students from 3rd World countries, who have a deep understanding of each respective area’s political and cultural phenomena, is important for the coming ‘Asian Era.’” He continued by saying, “University students in Asia must go beyond the boundaries of their home countries and expand the limits of research, putting forth much effort to produce competitive and capable individuals from Asia”, emphasizing the significance of the MOU signing.
FBEPS Dean Dr. Joyce Teo Siew Yean replied by saying, “KUBS is one of the universities pioneering higher education in Asia” and “as UBD and KUBS have similar goals such as international exchange student programs and globalization of staff members, this MOU will be a good opportunity for both schools to collaborate effectively.”
Both schools will engage closely in industry-academic exchange at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
