[2013-2016 KUBS Donation Status] Donor Stories at a Glance
Korea University Business School (KUBS) is undisputed top business school in Korea. KUBS, which has been making breakthroughs under the goal of becoming “Global Top 30, Asia No.1,” is an overwhelmingly No. 1 in various domestic and international assessments and recognized for its excellence as well. Behind these successful achievements, the college has received unconditional support and love by many KUBS alumni and donors.
scrutinized the funds raised for the alma mater and students in four categories: △Scholarship, △Research, △Construction, and △Miscellany. The research was conducted based on the pledges made in the past three years (June 1, 2016 – May 31, 2016). The total amount pledged over the past three years is approximately 20.37 billion won, including contributions from foundation.

Scholarship is exceptionally significant for KUBS students who will become a global leader in future. KUBS provides its own scholarship opportunities to help students concentrate on their studies without any financial hardship. The scholarship funds that have been donated to KUBS over the last three years are around 9.9 billion won. Alumnus Geun Chang Kim (Commerce, ’33) made a 9.1 billion won donation in March 2014, while Alumna Yoonja Jeon (Commerce, ’51) and Cheongu Heo (Commerce, ’59) donated 500 million won each in March and April 2015, respectively.
In addition to that, the alumni and donors have been donating to scholarships and reaching out a helping hand to KUBS students in order to help them triumph over challenging living conditions and become a talented individual in society. Thanks to the alumni who generously made donations, KUBS awarded scholarships to 959 students (scholarship overlap counted) in the past three years.

KUBS prides itself on having a top tier faculty in Korea. As of 2016, KUBS has a total of 86 full-time professors, which is the largest number of professors among colleges in Korea. Proving its world-class research capacity, KUBS ranked No. 1 in Korea and No. 91 worldwide in “The 2015 UTD Worldwide Top 100 Business School Rankings,” annually conducted by the University of Texas. Such accomplishments were achieved thanks to the donors’ support for research. Over the past three years, the research funds touched approximately 4.02 billion won. The donors have been making donations to the research funds through various channels to help professors focus on their research. With the support of KUBS and the donors, the faculty have secured superior research competitiveness.

KUBS has world-class educational infrastructures. △KUBS Main Building, △LG-POSCO Building, and △Hyundai Motor Hall were built with the donations from enterprises and donors. The buildings have a symbolic meaning as it was constructed solely through donations for the first time in the history of university architecture.
Excluding the donations for LG-POSCO Building in 2003 and Hyundai Motor Building in 2013, the total amount of the construction funds for KUBS is 4.82 billion won over the past three years. Iljin Group President Sang Il Lee (Commerce, ’57) donated 1 billion won in November 2015, and Dongwha Group President Myeong-Ho Seung (International Trade, ’74) made a 1.5 million won donation in February 2016. These funds are devoted to the KUBS Startup Station, which is scheduled to be completed in September on the second floor of the KUBS Main Building. The KUBS Startup Station, a startup education institute and support center, will be the center of cultivating global entrepreneurs.

Moreover, KUBS has received donations from various fields. Aside from the scholarship, research, and construction funds, the total amount of all other miscellaneous funds raised for KUBS reached 2.34 billion won. These funds, including the donations that are earmarked for other purposes, will be used for the development of the university, as well as for the improvement of the globalization index and educational environment.
In March 2014, alumnus Geun Chang Kim (Commerce, ’33) made contributions to enhance the globalization index of KUBS. At the same time, Iljin Group has donated 1 billion won for the startup support along with the construction fund for the KUBS Startup Station. Many donors having great affection for KUBS strive to make donations to support KUBS educational values and objective.
