As part of the long-term development plan to become one of the top 50 global business schools, KUBS began its construction of a new building equipped with environment-friendly cutting-edge information and communication environment.
In this regard, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site on July 30. The ceremony was attended by Dean of KUBS(Korea University Business School), Hasung Jang, President of KU(Korea University), Kisu Lee, Chairman of KB Financial Group and the former 15th president of KU, Yoondae Euh, President of Hana Financial Group, Seung-Yoo Kim who received Asia Society Leadership Award last year, and Chairman of GS Group and KUBS Alumni President, Chang Soo Huh. They participated in the ceremonial dig of the first shovel together with Sooryeo Oh, an alumni and the 1,905th donator who was specially selected celebrating KUBS 1,905th anniversary.
The New Business School Building (tentative) will possess all the facilities that the students at KUBS will need. The new building will be used as educational and research facility to nurture future global leaders and will include ▲cutting-edge multi-functional classrooms and research labs ▲open study rooms for small-group team discussions ▲a floating floor above the stairways to be used as a cultural space embracing large number of people ▲thermal tunnel, environment-friendly ground source heat pump system that uses new renewable energy.
To raise fund for the construction of the new building, KUBS introduced a different fund-raising method in which the alumni donates his/her name. In the fund-raising that started last December, alumni after alumni have donated as the news passed on from mouth to mouth through alumni network and 2,228 people have participated to date. The number of donators is expected to reach 3,000, an unprecedented number in a fund-raising campaign of a college alone, as it will continue until February next year. In an environment where social responsibilities of business people are ever more emphasized, such donations by the alumni will be a good exemplary to the students who will exercise ethical management in near future. All the names of the donators will be engraved in a ‘Band of Donor’, regardless of the donated amount, and will be displayed as a sculpture representing the affection toward their alma mater.
Dean Jang said, “New Business School Building will be the greatest business education facility in Korea, representing the power of KUBS alumni. “
The plan to construct the New Business School Building started in the G50 Ceremony in 2008 where the vision ‘become one of the top three Asian business schools, and one of the top 50 global by 2015’ was introduced. In this ceremony, KUBS promised to improve all sectors including professors, students, curriculum, facilities etc. as a concrete action plan to grow into a global university together with building a cutting-edge business school building.
