The 1st Insung Research Awards
Implemented by Yoo Hui Sung's Donation, Research Support on KUBS Faculty Members

 
 
 
Korea University Business School had the 1st Insung Research Awards Ceremony on September 5th, at Cuckoo Hall, LG-POSCO Building. The award goes to KUBS faculty with outstanding research performance. 
 
The awardees are four full-time academic staffs at the Business School, with the prize up to 30 million research fund. To be selected as an Insung Research Awards winner, 
the academic staff must demonstrate an outstanding level of research which must be agreed in the academic circle of Business Administration a research that potentially raises discussions for further researches a research that can potentially be published in internationally renowned journals. 
 
The participants in the ceremony were approximately 20, including research fund donor Hui Sung Yoo (Commerce ‘58), Ki-Soon Park (Commerce ‘58), Dean Soo Young Kwon, Director of IBRE Johngseok Bae, Associate Dean Jong-Ho Lee, Executive Manager Young-Jin Choi, Vice President for Development and External Affairs Byung Hyun Yoo, and Vice President for Capital Planning Jang-Heon Chung.

 
 
The ceremony started by Dean Soo Young Kwon’s welcoming speech, where he thanked Mr. Hui-Sung Yoo who financially supported the construction of Hyundai Motor Hall in 2011. Dean Kwon then briefly went through the implication of Insung Research Awards to the Business School. On top of SK and IBRE Awards, Insung Research Awards is another important award that has a large impact on faculty’s research planning. In addition, Dean Kwon encouraged the four awardees that “I hope you won’t forget that you are our proud first Insung Research Awards winners. I hope that the award will motivate your further researches. I am convinced that one day KUBS will be a platform for knowledge creation. Dean Kwon emphasized that “Once again, I would like to thank Mr. Hui-Sung Yoo, and thank you for our faculty member’s hard work.”
 
Then Mr. Yoo replied to the Dean’s speech, where he said that “Ever since I admitted to Korea University Business School, I kept reminding myself that I am a proud KUBS student. And that lasts after my graduation as well. The donation is just a small part of repaying what the School did for me.”
 
KUBS had a total of four awardees of the first Insung Research Awards: Professor Dongseop Lee (Management), Professor Chris Changwha Chung (International Business), Professor Kihoon Kim (LSOM), Professor Chung, Ji-Woong (Finance).
 
>> Hui-Sung Yoo’s Donation History 
In fact, this is the third time Mr. Yoo made the contribution to Korea University. His first donation of one billion won was made in April 2011, which was used to finance the construction of Hyundai Motor Hall. In response to his donation, KUBS named one of the lecture rooms, Room B205, as ‘Yoo Hui Sung Lecture Room’ to appreciate his contribution. 
 
The second donation he made was in July 2015, a contribution of 1.2billion won to Korea University. It was the start of Insung Fund, which provided students with financial support. Insung Fund is used to minimizing students’ financial burden. In fact, not exclusive to the tuition fee, the scholarship was granted to students’ monthly living expenses as well as airfare for exchange students. 
 
Mr. Hui-Sung Yoo’s donation continues in September 2017 when he donated the property worth 2.5 billion won to the School. Of which, 200 million won was used to finance the Insung Research Awards implemented in 2018.
