2nd Asia - Pacific Business School Deans Summit 3 days record.
August 27th, Wednesday.
The Welcoming Reception of the participants of the 2nd APDS was held at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel. In the reception, △Dean Doohee Lee △Vice President Daeki Kim △Vice President Sung Su Yoon △Vice President Jinhan Pae, and 50 Business deans from 13 different countries attended the event. Dean Doohee Lee said “The first ADPS have been very successful, and I would like to ask for active contribution to the development and enthusiastic participation of Asian Business Schools.” Afterwards, they enjoyed dinner in a free atmosphere .
August 28th, Thursday
2014 APDS started at 9:00 AM in SUPEX hall. Unlike the first APDS, this time it was divided into 3 different sections. In addition, the summit anticipated the publication of an e-business journal. In the morning they discussed lecturing, research, entrepreneurship, and proceeded to the new sessions, Case presentation 1 and Case presentation 2. The Vice Head of School Affairs, Sungjae Do, gave a congratulatory message. He said “I’m confident that this summit will show us the right direction and new opportunity to all 21st century Business Schools. Once again, it is an honor to open up this summit.”
After the congratulatory message, Edwin Cheng from Hong Kong University of Science started his keynote lecture regarding Asian Business Schools of the future. Professor Edwin proposed a development model of the Asian Business School in this lecture. He said “I agree with the changes initiated by Deans in different countries, however, following European countries as a model is not enough. Future Asian Business schools should possess 4Ps (△Pedagogical and programme shift △sense of Purpose △closer to Practice △Partnership)”. After the keynote lecture, participants enjoyed coffee and refreshments were prepared, and all had time to talk about the cooperation between Business Schools in each country.
In the second APDS, they discussed about “Gifted management students in Asia”. The main topic of each session was regarding the values that management students should possess, and education methodology that should be utilized with gifted students. On the training sessions, they discussed problems and solutions that Asian Business schools faced. Since Asia is becoming the center of world economy, they discussed how to increase education quality to meet this trend, and increase the number of gifted students. Professor Sin-hoon Hum from NUS Business School said "Asian business schools have reached a higher level, and focusing on international benchmarking is necessary in order to develop an international curriculum.
In the research session, under the keyword of “business research”, they discussed the value, future goal, and direction of research. Professor Hervé MATHE from said “Most businesses aim to create a better future; however, it is not the ultimate goal. Result from business research should focus on taking more responsibility and making a better future.
The Entrepreneurship session was held with a purpose to promote the entrepreneurial mindset, and discussed on the roles of Business Schools. New programs have been proposed during this time, which will foster entrepreneurship to students. Professor Den Huan HOOI from Singapore NTU said “Singapore was able to become an appealing and developed country, thanks to people with entrepreneurial spirit. We need to develop and make more programs that will instill ‘entrepreneurial spirit' to future students.”
They also had a lecture under ‘The challenge for the region’s & future direction of education’ topic. This session was led by former Dean Pierre Tapie from ESSEC. In his lecture, he introduced the data he collected on the relationship between Asian youth unemployment rate and their education level, and the problems they faced. Professor Pierre Tapie said “As economies in Asia grow, Asia will face multilateral problems. In these events, it is necessary for Asia Business Schools to look back into their roles." After these keynote sessions, △Case Presentation 1 △ Case Presentation 2 took place, and shared a various number of business cases. It was worth to note that both case presentations were presented by KUBS professors. In Case Presentation 1, ‘Tree Planet’ (Application that aims to protect the environment) corporation received was lots of attention from participants.
August 29th Friday
Amore Pacific Story Garden Tour took place on the last day of 2014 APDS. A total of 50 deans had time to look around, and discussed Amore Pacific’s distinctive policies, market conditions, and their future prospects. Deans shared and discussed management strategies with Amore Pacific.
