KUBS and YSB launch joint courses from the 2nd Semester
Agreement to Cooperate in the Undergraduate, Master’s, Doctorate and MBA program The ‘cross special lecture’ delivered by the Deans of Korea University Business School (KUBS) and Yonsei School of Business (YSB) has vitalized concrete cooperative programs between the two schools. Recently, KUBS and YSB announced that they will start joint classes from the 2nd semester. Seoul National University has also decided to join the efforts and expressed their intent to cooperate in not only undergraduate courses but also master’s, doctorate and MBA courses.

Starting from the 2nd semester, KUBS and YSB will simultaneously launch regular courses in business management that will be jointly taught by professors from both schools. In the past, professors from the two schools gave lectures at the counterpart school in the form of ‘cross lectures’ but for the very first time the schools are offering regular courses that will be taught by a team of professors from both schools.
Starting from the 2nd semester, the two schools have agreed to allow students to take the ‘cross lectures’. The two pillars of Korean universities will allow professors to teach at and students to take classes at the counterpart school.
Recently KUBS announced “In the upcoming 2nd semester, ‘Business Management Theory and Practice’ course will be offered simultaneously at both schools and taught by 14 professors from the two schools.”
The course which will be taken up by around 80 students from each school will cover various topics such as marketing, finance, and accounting for 14 weeks. Of the 14 professors who will be teaching, 7 will be from KUBS and the other half from YSB.
The professors will face great burden as the students will be directly comparing the classes taught by the professors from the two universities. The course will be a key example of ‘Competition amid Cooperation’ because students will also be directly compared and evaluated by professors of both schools.
Jang Ha-sung, Dean of KUBS emphasized “If cross lectures take root then we might consult with Yonsei to consider the option of providing joint degrees between our schools. The two schools who have been partners and competitors for a long time must move forward together.”
An official from KUBS said “We expect to see more concrete cooperative programs that will reinforce the cooperative relations between KUBS and YSB who have long been partners and competitors.”
▲ Cooperation with Seoul National University and Yonsei University in MBA Program
Korea University, Seoul National University and Yonsei University have decided to move beyond the limited cooperation of allowing undergraduate course credit transfer and to more actively benchmark best practices in credit transfer, curriculum, and extracurricular activities for graduate and MBA programs.
The three schools have agreed to work together in creating employment opportunities for graduates of Korean MBA programs and helping students find internship at global companies.
Dean Jang said “According to survey results about 40% of the MBA students wish to take classes at other universities as well.”
Dean of Yonsei Business School, Park Sang-yong suggested “Fighting between Korean universities is now meaningless. Through our cooperation we need to move beyond Asia and move closer to becoming global business schools.”
Ahn Tae-shik, Dean of Seoul National University said “ It costs a lot of money to find jobs for graduates of Korean MBA programs, which is still in its early stages, because there is small demand from Korean companies. If the three schools put their heads together we can reduce cost and increase our influence with the companies.”
