2013 Summer Orientation for the International Internship Program

The First International Internship Program Started in Korea in 1994, Average Annual Participation of More Than 80 Students

The 2013 Summer Orientation for the International Internship Program was held at the LG-POSCO Building in Room 531 on June 25 (Tue). During the orientation, students were educated on subjects such as company etiquette and business attitude so that they could adjust to the local company swiftly and show outstanding competency. An International Business and Administration Work Experience Log was distributed in order to help students to diligently complete the internship program. The contents of the business log are reflected in the International Business and Administration Work Experience Course Assessment and the log itself is used to select above-average reports and, for those students who have excelled academically, as supporting documentation for a formal job employment recommendation at the relevant company.

Associate Dean Daeki Kim, who was present at the event, entreated those present by saying, “The students participating in this internship program are representatives of KUBS” and “students should have a sense of responsibility and loyalty towards their company and contribute to the reputation of KUBS upon their return from the internship.”

KUBS started the first international internship program in Korea in 1994. This program provides an opportunity for students to experience working first-hand at companies all over the world to hone their global perspectives. The KUBS International Internship Program is a specialized International Academic Collaboration Program where successful candidates are placed in overseas companies, experiencing international business on the field. Since its inception, the program attracts an average of more than 80 students each year, with students being sent all over the world.

In the beginning, students were sent to foreign branches of domestic companies but recently they are being sent to overseas companies such as Merrill Lynch, HSBC Bank, Ernst & Young, General Electric (GE), and Bloomberg. Not only that, the scope of the internship has been widened to include international organizations such as OECD, UNEP, UNESCO, and Habitat as well.

KUBS International Office has been holding a preliminary orientation every year for international internship participants to ease adjustment into the local working environment. Students undergo various research projects at their company of placement and can submit documents such as their activities report, business log, and conduct assessment for course credits after the program has ended. The costs of the internship are the responsibility of the company, school, and the student, where the company provides the room and board as well as the residence cost of staying in the local environment. The airline fees and living expenses are the student’s responsibility, but it is possible for the student to receive financial aid for both, depending on family circumstances.
