Recognized as ‘Korea’s Top MBA’ since 2006
KUBS (Korea University Business School) MBA has been recognized as Korea’s best business education institution taking 1st place again in the BK 21 evaluation conducted jointly by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the National Research Foundation of Korea. With this year’s results, KUBS MBA has maintained its number one position for four consecutive years since 2007.
BK 21 is a government-funded project that aims to foster world-class researchers. Currently, the 2nd phase of the project is being carried out over a seven year time period (2006-2012). Every year each program is given a total score and a ranking based on its performance, in order to maximize performance and encourage competition among the participating programs.
Among the national programs, KUBS MBA was one of the two programs that were given the highest score for four consecutive years. The other program was the Humanities and Social Sciences Interdisciplinary program of Sungkyunkwan University.
An official from the National Research Foundation said “Following last year, KUBS MBA ranked 1st in the research and specialization categories and received excellent score in the education category as well. In particular, KUBS MBA greatly improved its performance in globalization and research performance categories compared to the last 3rd year of evaluation. The number of foreign students at KUBS MBA increased 35%, from 37 students to 50 students and the proportion of foreign language classes increased from 51% to 55%. KUBS MBA also received good scores in the category evaluating the excellence of research performance. For the index ‘Excellence of capabilities in publishing papers in top class journals’ KUBS received almost perfect scores. The index score reflects the prestige of the journals in which the papers were published in—the score is not simply based on the number of published papers. An official from the KUBS commented, “Strategically we focused the capabilities of our faculty on prestigious journals, keeping in mid competition with other world-renowned universities rather than with other Korean universities. When compared to other schools, KUBS is unmatched in its research accomplishments. We will not remain satisfied with being Korea’s best, but continue to reinforce our capabilities in order to compete with the world’s best schools.”
