406 foreign students… 13 fold increase in six years

“It feels like I’m in a foreign country as an exchange student”

This is how Heui-eun Jung (Business Administration 06) described the classroom atmosphere at KUBS. She added “In most of the classes, foreign students account for over 10% of all students. In some of the team projects there are more foreign students than Korean students.”

The number of foreign students coming to study at KUBS has been increasing annually. According to the latest figures announced by the KUBS International Center, a total of 406 foreign students have enrolled at KUBS during the 1st and 2nd semester of 2009. From just 30 foreign students in 2002, the number of foreign students has increased rapidly, posting a whopping 13 fold during the past 6 years.

Reasons behind the increasing number of foreign students at KUBS are ▲ increase in incoming exchanges students due to active cooperation with foreign universities ▲ increase in the number of incoming freshmen students due to the enhanced status of KUBS.

Currently, Korea University has signed an exchange agreement with 518 schools in 56 countries. KUBS has independently signed agreements with 78 business schools in 26 countries to promote academic exchanges between business schools. Recently, there have been more visits from such partner schools.

KUBS has signed agreements with top-notch schools, the key business schools in their respective countries, such as the University of Pennsylvania, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign from the US, University of Mannheim from Germany, Waseda University from Japan and National University of Singapore.

Sebastian Lindstrom an exchange student from The University of Hong Kong said “I was very impressed by the pleasant facilities which enable students to concentrate on their studies. I was able to learn from excellent professors who are the foremost authority in their respective fields.”

The number of foreign students in the undergraduate, graduate and MBA program are also steadily increasing. The number of exchanges students from overseas universities as well as the number of foreign students transferring and being admitted to KUBS is increasing. 70% of the incoming students of S³ Asia MBA are foreigners and each year foreign students account for over 30% of the total number of students in the Global MBA program.
