1,516 donors in just seven months…Reaffirm love for alma mater

The plan for the new building of KUBS has finally been unveiled. Covering a total of 15,471 m², the New Business Buildingl will comprise a total of nine floors. Full-fledged construction will begin following the groundbreaking ceremony in June. Construction is expected to be completed by August 2012.

The New Business School Building has drawn attention with its unique fund-raising method. In the past, most university buildings were built with large donations from CEOs or conglomerates and the buildings were usually named after the corporate donor. In addition to the funds raised by the large conglomerates, KUBS induced the individual participation of KUBS members, making the building more than just a school building but one that has been created together by the alumni. The intent was to honor the names of students and alumni through the new building.

To this end, strict principles were established on the treatment of donors. The school decided to engrave the name of all the donors in the same size. Hasung Jang, Dean of KUBS said, “We know that regardless of the amount of donation, whether it be 10 thousand won or 1 billion won, all the donors care greatly about their alma mater. We decided to honor the donors by engraving their name in the same size and format because we cannot put a price tag on their affection for alma mater.”

The New Building represents the close bond and friendship of the KUBS community as it is being built by the combined donations of its members. KUBS will install an information kiosk (kiosk: a touch-screen information delivery system installed in public places) so that alumni visiting the alma mater can find their engraved name.

In addition, the New Business School Building is a ‘building of vision’ that symbolizes the rapid development and progress that KUBS has accomplished during the past decade. Less than seven months of raising donations, over 1500 alumni have pledged their donation. Some graduates handed the KUBS Donation Team a list of alumni to contact so that they could engrave their names together with friends in the New Business Building, which will become a monument of KUBS.

Alumni Jae-kyung Park (Business Administration 87) who took part in the fund-raising effort said, “Only KUBS can come up with the idea to engage the entire alumni to create a building with everybody’s name on it. I hope that more alumni will learn about this wonderful idea and participate.”

With the names of all the donors being engraved, the New Business Building will go down in KUBS history as a historical building that showcased the potential of ‘KUBSian’ internally and externally.
