…KUBS Team Wins Grand Prize under the Guidance of Professor Hojung Shin
The Kokuma team (representative Cheong TaekHee) and the TMS team (Representative Yoo MinSeok) of the KUBS academic club (KULSOM) under the guidance of Professor Hojung Shin both won the grand prize at the biannual conference during the Hyundai Motors University Students’ Competition held on November 2nd at the Seoul University SK Business Administration Building held by the Korean Production and Operations Management Society.
The Biannual Conference this year held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Korean Production and Operations Management Society under the theme “The Past 30 years and the Future 30 years of the Korean Production and Operations Management Society,” took place in the order of welcoming address, basic lecture, presentation of conference sessions, Hyundai Motors University Students’ Competition, planning session, closing ceremony and award ceremony.
During the event, 14 teams competed in the areas of econometric analysis session and case study session competing based on the creativity and the development of future ideas. In the econometric analysis session, the Kokuma team (team members Cheong TaekHee, Kim MiSong, Lee NaYoung, Chae Songi) won the grand prize based on their idea, “Improvement of the 119 emergency processor” and the TMS team (team members Yoo MinSeok, Kwon MinKyoung, Lee JuHyoung, Hwang SeYeon) won the grand prize in the case study session based on their method, “The proposition of the method of constructing the EV dead battery reverse process.”
According to the representative of the Kokuma team Cheong TaekHee (Business’13), “through the technology development of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the reduction and efficiency of the overall art of supply in various fields is being realized but it is becoming more difficult to take advantage of this golden time in the emergency process directly related with life,” and therefore they viewed the emergency process from the point-view of a one service SCM and suggested corrective measures.
The Kokuma team actually analyzed the over 60000 collated data of the emergency ambulances’ movement for 2 weeks and studied the related problems econometrically and suggested corrective measures accordingly. Also Mr. Cheong said as he gave his winning address that, “this econometric approach was very critical in winning this award and continuous consulting feedback of Prof Shin Ho Jung and all the conference members of KULSOM was also very helpful”.
According to Kwon MinKyoung (Business‘16) of the TMS team as he talked about selecting their topic, “The proposition of the method of constructing the EV dead battery reverse process,” that they took the approach of finding current problems and tried to develop solutions to them. The demand for electric cars is rising rapidly worldwide and Korea also in its effort to reduce carbon dioxide emission is also increasing the supply of electric cars but due to a deficient system, its efficiency is not being maximized and so they conceptualized the problem from this point of view and wanted to construct a reverse process that will invent a solution that will help to continuously achieve the true possibilities of electric cars.
In addition, the factor that enabled them to win the grand prize is “team work”. According to Kwon, “the gathering of different people with different personalities to discuss about the topic and exchange feedback based on what each person had researched helped us to develop consideration for one another in the process and therefore we were able to benefit from the synergy effect that resulted from that.”
The Professor that consulted and advised the two teams that won the grand prize, Professor Hojung Shin said, “for two years now, we have consecutively won the grand prize. I am very proud of our students who are gradually writing the history of KULSOM which emphasizes teamwork and harmony.”
Meanwhile it is important to note that the Korean Production and Operations Management Society since its conception in 1988 till this year as it celebrates its 30th anniversary has seasonally held the spring and summer biannual conference to present and discuss the issues in Operations Management and has been publishing the Korean Production and Operations Management Society Journal four times a year.
