고려대학교 경영전문대학원의 S³ Asia MBA(이하 AMBA) 과정은 고려대학교, 중국의 푸단대학교(Fudan University), 싱가포르의 싱가포르국립대학교(National University of Singapore, NUS)가 공동으로 운영하고 있는 아시아 특성화 MBA 프로그램이다. 서울, 상해, 싱가포르에서 한 학기씩 수학하는 AMBA 과정은 아시아의 거점 도시에서 직접 생활하고 공부하며 그 나라의 시장과 문화를 직접 체험할 수 있다는 것이 특징이다. 아시아 지역에서의 비즈니스를 계획하고 있는 AMBA 10기 재학생들을 만나 AMBA 과정의 커리큘럼과 장점에 대한 이야기를 들어봤다.
Q. 원우님의 간단한 소개를 부탁드립니다.
Please introduce yourselves briefly.
김도윤 | AMBA 10기 김도윤입니다. 고려대학교에서 학부를 졸업했으며 전공은 생명과학 분야입니다. 약 3년 간 한국치아은행에서 경력을 쌓은 뒤 MBA에 진학했습니다.

Q. MBA 진학을 결심하게 된 계기는 무엇인가요? 국내외 다양한 프로그램 중에서도 AMBA를 선택하게 된 계기는요?
Why did you decide to enter MBA program? Also, among many MBA Programs, what made you choose S³ Asia MBA?
김도윤 | 국내보다 해외 MBA 과정을 고려하고 있었는데, 학교 소식지를 통해 AMBA 과정을 알게 됐습니다. 제가 AMBA 과정을 선택한 이유는 고려대 이외에도 중국의 푸단대학교나 싱가포르국립대학교 중 1개교의 학위를 추가로 받을 수 있다는 점이 매력적이었기 때문이에요.
아시아 시장에 관심이 많거나, 해외 취업을 고려하는 사람들에게 무척 적합한 프로그램이거든요. 중국 푸단대학교와 싱가포르국립대학교 역시 세계 랭킹이 높은 학교들에 속하기에 MBA 프로그램 구성도 훌륭할 것이라고 생각했어요.
Do-Yoon Kim Initially, I considered overseas MBA programs. Meanwhile, I got to know about AMBA through Korea University’s newsletter. The fact that I can get one more additional degree from Fudan University in China or NUS, along with Korea University’s degree, was appealing. This program is appropriate for those who are interested in Asian market or who consider working abroad. Fudan University and NUS are also ranked high globally, so I thought the program itself would also be excellent.
Prakriti Khanna | 저는 커리어 방향을 바꾸고 싶어 진학하게 되었어요. 딜로이트에서 근무할 때, 사모펀드(Private Equity) 분야에서 근무했었는데 투자 부문으로 커리어를 전환하고 싶었거든요. 이를 위해서는 재무 전문성을 갖추는 것이 중요했죠. 더불어 앙트프러너십과 경영에 대해서도 배우고 싶었습니다. AMBA는 이 두 가지를 결합하고 있기에, 저에게는 완벽한 프로그램으로 느껴졌습니다. 아시아의 경영전략과 문화를 배울 수 있다는 점과 더불어 서울, 상해, 싱가포르 3개 도시의 문화를 배울 수 있다는 점 또한 매력적이었고요.
Prakriti Khanna I entered MBA because I wanted to change my career path. While I was in Deloitte, I worked in private equity sector. Now I want to go for investment field. For this, I need financial specialization. Along with this, I also wanted to learn entrepreneurship and management. Because AMBA provide courses for these two, it felt perfect to me. Not only that, AMBA is also attractive, for you can learn Asian business strategies and cultures in 3 different cities, Seoul, Shanghai and Singapore.
안중규 | AMBA는 3개의 국가에서 학습할 수 있는 기회가 '확정'되어 있다는 것이 가장 큰 장점이라고 생각했습니다. 아시아 시장에서 직업을 갖고 일하고 싶다면, AMBA 프로그램이 가장 적합하다고 생각합니다. 졸업 후에는 싱가포르의 IT 또는 핀테크 기업에서 일하고 싶어요.
JoongKyu Ahn I think the biggest advantage of this program is that the opportunity to study in 3 countries is confirmed. If you want to get a job in Asian market, AMBA would be the most suitable program. After the graduation, I want to work for a IT or FinTech company in Singapore.

김도윤 | 국내보다 해외 MBA 과정을 고려하고 있었는데, 학교 소식지를 통해 AMBA 과정을 알게 됐습니다. 제가 AMBA 과정을 선택한 이유는 고려대 이외에도 중국의 푸단대학교나 싱가포르국립대학교 중 1개교의 학위를 추가로 받을 수 있다는 점이 매력적이었기 때문이에요.

Q. 입학 후 느낀 AMBA의 강점은 무엇인가요?
In your experience, what are some strengths of the program?
김도윤 | 타 MBA 과정과 비교해 인원수가 적습니다. 현재 저희 기수는 21명인데요. 1년 6개월 동안 21명의 원우들이 늘 함께하기 때문에 무척 가까워질 수 있습니다. 중국나 싱가포르로 나가게 되면 해당 국가의 국적을 가진 친구들이 적극적으로 도와줘서 수월하게 생활할 수 있어요.
저는 AMBA에서 특히이란 과목을 소개해 주고 싶은데요. 고려대, 푸단대, 싱가포르국립대 3개의 학교 모두 동일하게 개설되어 있는 이 과목은 각 국가의 기업을 방문하고, 문화 탐방을 하는 수업입니다. 기업 현장을 체험하고 실제로 볼 수 있다는 점이 좋다고 생각해요.
Do-Yoon Kim Compared to other MBA programs, we have less students in a class. There are 21 of us now, and as we study together for one and a half year, we got really close to each other. When we are staying in China or Singapore, the students from that country give us a hand to get used to the life there, which is a big help.
Especially, I would like to introduce a subject called. It opens in all 3 universities. In this course, you can visit the companies of each country and experience the culture. I liked this class as I could actually see and feel the business site.
Prakriti Khanna | 6개월마다 국가를 옮긴다는 것이 강점입니다. 한 국가에서 편해질 만하면 장소를 옮기고, 다시 익숙해지는 것을 반복하죠. 이는 마치 어떻게 적응하고 생존하는지를 학습하는 또 다른 방법 같아요. 다른 MBA 과정과 비교하면 한 기수마다 학생 수가 적어 모든 친구들에 대해 알 수 있다는 점도 강점이라고 생각해요. 교수님들도 각 학생들에 대해서 꿰뚫고 계시고, 강의 또한 양질의 콘텐츠로 운영될 수 있죠.
Prakriti Khanna I think the fact that you have to move could be the advantage. By the time you get comfortable with a place, you have to move to another city and try to adapt to new environment. This is just like learning how to adapt and survive. Also, unlike other MBA programs, there are less students, which allows us to learn more about our classmates. Professors know students better as well, which leads to higher quality of the lecture.
안중규 | 고려대학교, 푸단대학교, 싱가포르국립대학교는 모두 1905년에 설립되어 역사가 무척 깊고 각 국가에서 최고의 네임밸류를 가지고 있습니다. 훌륭한 교수진에게 강의를 들을 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, Career Development 프로그램도 잘 구성되어 있어 학생들의 취업활동을 다양한 측면에서 지원해주고 있습니다.
JoongKyu Ahn Korea University, Fudan University and NUS were all established in 1905, having long history and the best name value in each country. The lectures are provided by great faculty, and career development programs are well organized, which supports students’ job-seeking.
In your experience, what are some strengths of the program?
김도윤 | 타 MBA 과정과 비교해 인원수가 적습니다. 현재 저희 기수는 21명인데요. 1년 6개월 동안 21명의 원우들이 늘 함께하기 때문에 무척 가까워질 수 있습니다. 중국나 싱가포르로 나가게 되면 해당 국가의 국적을 가진 친구들이 적극적으로 도와줘서 수월하게 생활할 수 있어요.

Q. AMBA의 네트워킹 활동은 어떤 것들이 있나요?
Could you tell us about networking program in AMBA?
김도윤 | 첫 학기는 중국 푸단대에서 진행되는데, 고려대에서 진행됐던 행사와 별개로 각 학교별 오리엔테이션 자리를 가지게 됩니다. 각 학교별 오리엔테이션 자리에서는 함께 공부할 외국인 원우들을 만나게 되죠. 사적인 행사는 AMBA 원우들의 모임을 들 수 있는데요. 교수님도 함께 참석하셔서 격 없이 즐거운 시간을 보내고 있습니다.
Do-Yoon Kim The first semester starts at Fudan University in China. Apart from the events held in Korea University, each school provides their own orientation classes. There, you get to meet foreign students who are going to study with you. For private events, there are AMBA meetings among students. Even sometimes, professors take part in the meeting and spend a great time.
Prakriti Khanna | 중국 푸단대에서는 푸단대 IMBA (International MBA) 학생들과 함께 수업을 듣는데요. 오리엔테이션 기간 동안 더욱 친해질 수 있었죠. 푸단대에서는 오리엔테이션 이외에도 매우 다양한 종류의 이벤트들이 진행됐는데, 다음 학기에 수업이 진행될 싱가포르국립대도 이와 비슷할 것이라고 생각해요.
Prakriti Khanna In Fudan University, we took classes with IMBA students from Fudan University. We got close during orientation session. In Fundan University, there were many kinds of event other than orientation. I am expecting the same for the NUS, next semester.
안중규 | AMBA를 졸업하신 선배님들과의 모임이 구성된다는 점도 말씀드리고 싶어요. 또한 푸단대와 싱가포르국립대 졸업생들의 모임도 서울에서 개최되고 있는데요, 우리 AMBA도 함께 참석하고 있습니다. 이 밖에도 고려대 포함 국내의 8개 대학이 참여하는 MBA 연합 모임도 있고, 이러한 모임들이 두 달에 한번 꼴로 진행되며 커뮤니케이션 또한 활발히 이뤄지고 있습니다.
JoongKyu Ahn I want to point out that there are gathering event with graduate students who already finished the program. Also, the meetings of graduate students of Fudan University and NUS is also held in Seoul, and we AMBA is participating as well. Not only that, there is also a get-together among 8 universities’ MBA students in Korea. These kinds of events are held once in two months in average, with active communication.

Q. 지난 한기 중국 푸단대에서 약 6개월 동안 첫 학기를 보내셨는데요. 푸단대에서의 수업, 그리고 중국에서의 생활은 어떠셨나요?
You spent your first six months at Fudan University. How were the classes there and life in China?
김도윤 | 저는 중국어를 잘 하지 못해서 같이 생활하는 원우들의 도움을 많이 받았습니다. 더욱 좋았던건기숙사에서 생활하는 원우 2명이 중국어를 유창하게 구사했거든요. 기본적인 생활 측면에서는 함께 생활하는 한국인 원우들에게 도움을 받기도 하고, 중국인 학생들이 도움을 주는 경우도 많습니다. 푸단대는 앞서 언급됐던 IMBA (International MBA) 학생들과 함께 수업을 듣게 되는데요. 외국인 원우와 함께 어울려서 수업을 듣는다는 것도 현지에 적응하는데 큰 도움이 되었습니다.
Do-Yoon Kim Because I am not that good at Chinese language, I got a lot of help from those I stayed with. The 2 roommates were fluent in Chinese. In terms of living, Korean as well as Chinese students helped a lot. In case of Fudan University, we took course with IMBA students, and the fact that I get to know with foreign students was helpful while I get used to the life there.
Prakriti Khanna | 제가 느끼기엔 모든 수업들이 다 좋았어요. 푸단대에서 들었던과 두 가지 과목을 말씀드리고 싶어요. 경제학 분야 교수님이 정말 좋았고, 전반적인 교수진도 만족스러웠어요. 과목도 좋았는데 교수님이 책 속의 지식이 아닌 실제 사례를 들어 설명해주셨기 때문이죠. 생활적인 측면에서는 인프라가 잘 갖춰져있어서 편리했어요. 다만 저의 경우에는 중국어를 전혀 하지 못했기 때문에, 중국인들이 영어를 이해하지 못해서 처음에는 불편했어요. 하지만 점점 익숙해졌고, 결국에는 만족스럽게 학기를 마칠 수 있었어요.
Prakriti Khanna For me, all the classes were good. Especially, I want to talk about and class. The professor from economics field was great and overall faculty were satisfactory. I liked as well, for professor explained the concepts not only with the text book but also with the real cases. For the living, it was comfortable as there was good infrastructures. However, I my case, it was a bit inconvenient as I don’t speak Chinese at all. But eventually I got used to it, and could finish the satisfactory semester.
안중규 | 저는 학교 외적인 부분을 말씀드리고 싶습니다. 개인적으로 중국에 처음 방문한 경험이었는데, 그 동안 제가 생각했던 중국의 모습과 직접 보고 느낀 중국은 많이 달랐습니다. 상해는 역동적이고 국제적인 도시라는 느낌을 받았고, 어떤 측면에서는 서울보다 더 발전된 부분도 있었습니다. 특히 놀라웠던 것은 모바일 결제가 범용적이라는 점인데요, 심지어 길거리의 노점상에서도 위챗 또는 알리페이로 결제가 가능하다는 점이 인상 깊었습니다.
JoongKyu Ahn I would like to talk about the things outside school. Personally, this was my first visit to China, and the China I experienced and the China I thought were totally different. Shanghai was very dynamic and international, even more developed than Seoul in some sense. Especially the popularity of mobile payment was surprising. Even in the street vendor you could pay through WeChat or Alipay, which was impressing.

김도윤 | 저는 중국어를 잘 하지 못해서 같이 생활하는 원우들의 도움을 많이 받았습니다. 더욱 좋았던건기숙사에서 생활하는 원우 2명이 중국어를 유창하게 구사했거든요. 기본적인 생활 측면에서는 함께 생활하는 한국인 원우들에게 도움을 받기도 하고, 중국인 학생들이 도움을 주는 경우도 많습니다. 푸단대는 앞서 언급됐던 IMBA (International MBA) 학생들과 함께 수업을 듣게 되는데요. 외국인 원우와 함께 어울려서 수업을 듣는다는 것도 현지에 적응하는데 큰 도움이 되었습니다.

Q. 한국에서의 생활과 이번 학기 고려대학교에서의 수업은 어떤가요?
How are the classes and your life in Korea this semester?
Prakriti Khanna | 한국에서의 생활은 무척 좋아요. 외국인 학생 대부분 중국보다 한국에서 생활하는데 빨리 적응하고 있어요. 왜냐하면 한국어 수업을 통해 한국어를 학습하고 있고, 대부분 영어로 의사소통 하는 것이 가능하기 때문이에요. 한국인 친구들은 친절해서 많은 것을 경험할 수 있도록 도와주고 있어요. 그룹 모임이나 벚꽃 구경같은 활동도 그 중 하나죠. 수업도 좋아요. 교수님들이 함께 점심이나 저녁을 함께 먹기도 해요. 푸단대에서는 경험할 수 없었는데 수업시간 이외에도 교수님들과 다양한 이야기를 나눌 수 있다는 점이 좋아요. 모든 교수진이 세계적으로 높은 랭킹의 대학을 졸업했다는 것도 마음에 들어요.
Prakriti Khanna My experience in Korea is very good. Compared to China, most of the foreign students managed to adjust in Korea faster. Because, we learn Korean language through Korean class, and there are more English speakers. Nice Korean friends help us to experience a lot of things. Gatherings and going for cherry blossom together could be one of them.
I like the classes as well. We even have lunch or dinner with professors, which is helpful as we can talk more about class and things out of the course. Also, I like the fact that all faculty members are qualified.

Do-Yoon Kim The best thing about AMBA is that all the students can get along well. You learn not only from lectures, but also from other students. Above all, you can experience various things while studying in 3 different countries.
Prakriti Khanna | MBA 과정마다 차이점이 있을텐데요. 크게 두 가지를 생각하시면 좋을 것 같습니다. 먼저 "무엇을 배우고 싶은지" 그리고 "어떤 방향으로 경력을 쌓고 싶은지" 인데요. 모든 MBA 과정이 동일하지 않기 때문에 이에 따라 잘 선택하셔서 지원하시길 바랍니다.
Prakriti Khanna There would be different strengths for each program. You should consider two things, ‘what you want to learn’ and ‘what career path you want to take’. Not all MBAs are the same, so you should apply according to your preference.
안중규 | MBA 진학을 고민하고 있다면 "왜 내가 MBA 과정에 진학하고 싶은지"를 먼저 생각해보시기 바랍니다. 이에 대한 답변을 찾았다면 주저하지 말고 빨리 진학하는게 좋을 것이라고 생각합니다. 푸단대에서 만났던 한 이탈리아 학생의 경우에는 23살이었는데, 어린 나이에 MBA에 진학했다는 점이 참 보기좋고 부럽기도 하더라구요.
JoongKyu Ahn If you consider entering the MBA, think of ‘why I want to go for MBA’. After you got the answer and decided to take the program, don’t hesitate. I met an Italian student in Fudan University whose age was 23, and it was nice to look at.
