On July 23 (Sat), Korea University Business School’s Executive MBA (EMBA) held the “EMBA Junior SMART Camp” in Room 531 of the LG-POSCO Building. The camp was organized to help students understand KUBS and Business Administration. A total of 28 EMBA students and their children participated in the event. “Business Administration is a study of real-life situations; thus, it is very close to reality,” Professor Kyung Sam Park, who is an academic director, said in his welcoming remarks. “I recommend you figure out the unique features of each field of study and consider what area you want to pursue before entering a university.”

Afterwards, KUBS Student Ambassador KUBE introduced mentors and the university. During the group session, KUBE also received questions about overall college life based on the brochure distributed beforehand. “At first, I was a bit worried that middle school students might not be intrigued by this event since there is a distance between middle school and college. However, I am thankful that the students actively participated in all programs well,” Woo-young Shin (Business Administration ’12) who was a mentor to 8th grade students, said. “I hope there will be more offerings like this for young students in the future.”

Professor Kyung Sam Park (Academic Director) and Professor Weon Sang Yoo (Area Chair) delivered a lecture after the group session. Professor Park gave a lecture titled “What is Business Administration?” covering overall understanding of Business Administration, such as internal structure of a firm. The second lecture “What is Marketing?“ was presented by Professor Yoo. “The ultimate goal of Marketing is to make consumers fall in love with a company,” he said. A group photoshoot and certificate presentation were held after the lectures.

“Business Administration is not only useful to students in a liberal arts track but also to students in a natural sciences track (Korean high school curriculum is divided into liberal arts and natural sciences),” Minji Kim (Second-year high school student) said. “I thought Business Administration might be tedious, but through this event, I realized it is a fascinating subject.”
