KUBS International Joins Networking Session with Tsukuba Faculty
On October 10, a group of ten professors from the Graduate School of Business Sciences, MBA Program in International Business at the University of Tsukuba, which is Japan’s national university, visited Korea University Business School (KUBS). A total of 15 KUBS professors of International Business, including former Associate Dean Hojung Shin, welcomed the Tsukuba professors.
The KUBS Student Ambassadors, KUBE, conducted a campus tour to introduce the school to the Tsukuba professors and had a small chat to break the awkward atmosphere. “I hope this session allows us to give insights and to move forward to become top universities in the world,” Professor Shin said.
“It is meaningful to meet and share diverse experiences and knowledge with professors of Korean and Japanese universities that are geographically adjacent to one another,” Professor Hua Xu, who is Program Chair at the University of Tsukuba, said. “I would like to know more about the educational system of Korea’s best business school and benchmark its positive aspects.” KUBS and Tsukuba faculty delivered their lectures respectively and academically discussed about the related issues.
The University of Tsukuba is a national university that produced three Nobel Prize winners (two in Physics and one in Chemistry). The university was founded in 1973, following its predecessor the Tokyo University of Education. At that time, the University of Tsukuba was the first school to give lectures in English. Under the idea of the “Pacific Rim’s College of Science and Engineering,” the university made massive investments in engineering and medicine areas. Furthermore, the “Credit Approval Policy,” which students design their own major and request for credit approval, was introduced for the first time in Japan.
