KUBS Alumni Leading the 20th-century Korea
 
Korea University Business School (KUBS) has been dedicated to the nation and its citizens since the beginning of Bosung College, which was founded in 1905. The business leaders who graduated from Bosung College led Korean representative firms, such as Kyungbang, Samyang Corporation, and CHB Bank, and contributed in raising national capital during the Japanese colonial era.
 
In the period of Japanese colonial rule, there were alumni who fought for the nation as an independence activist and politician. The representative alumni are alumnus Heo Jeong (Commerce, ’08) and alumnus Hang-seop Eom (Commerce, ’12). Alumnus Eom, who was a member of the Provisional Government, organized the “Korean National Revolutionary Party” and devoted to maintain the Provisional Government and develop its power base. When the Liberty Party government collapsed following the April Revolution in 1960, the country was run by an interim government under alumnus Jeong. Evidently, KUBS alumni were cornerstones and leaders of the nation.
 
Furthermore, KUBS has an alumnus who was elected as president in the 21st century. Alumnus Myung-bak Lee (Business Administration, ’61) served as the 17th president of Korea. Prior to being elected as president, Alumnus Lee was CEO of Hyundai Engineering & Construction and then mayor of Seoul. The following alumni have served for the government: Seong-gon Kim (Commerce, ’30), member of the 2nd, 6th, 7th, and 8th National Assembly; Yeong-kyo Oh (Business Administration, ’66), minister of “Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs; Jin-sik Yoon (Business Administration, ’67), minister of “Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy”; and Duck-Koo Chung (Business Administration, ’67), vice minister of “Ministry of Finance and Economy.”
 
Many KUBS alumni who worked in civil services led the development and growth of Korea in their respective positions. Thanks to their accomplishments, KUBS has maintained its reputation as the best business school.

KUBS has been nurturing and producing a great number of alumni leading the Korean Economy. KUBS has the largest CEO network at the college level. According to the annual report of "CEOs from the Top 500 Companies in Korea" released by CEO Score, most CEOs have graduated from KUBS. The KUBS alumni have been at the forefront of the economy and leading Korean companies.
 
 
 
KUBS Alumni in Sports 
 
KUBS alumni are spread out even in the sports world. The most representative alumni are the marathon runners who delivered one of the touching moments to Koreans in the past. When Korea was under Japan’s colonial rule in 1936, marathon runner Kee-chung Sohn (Commerce ’37) gave joy to millions of Koreans by winning the Berlin Olympics. Additionally, athlete Yun-bok Suh (Commerce, ’48) and athlete Giyong Ham (Business Administration, ’51) are also alumni of KUBS.
 
The basketball players who graduated from KUBS are Hyojun Jin (Commerce, ’75), Chung-hee Lee (Business Administration, ‘77), and Joo-yup Hyun (Business Administration, ’94) while the baseball players are Kwang Hwan lee (Business Administration, ’67), Kyeong-Mun Kim (Business Administration, ’78), Sang-Moon Yang (Business Administration, ’79) and Dong-Yeol Sun (Business Administration, ’81).
 
Swimmer O-ryeon Jo (Business Administration, ’72) and short track speed skater Dong-sung Kim (Business Administration, ’98) are also KUBS alumni who are actively performing as an athlete and leader in sports.
