KUBS, Aiming for the World Lead

Korea University Business School (KUBS) is advancing into the world beyond its reputation as the representative school in Korea. KUBS competes against the world’s prestigious schools and leads the most up-to-date academic trends while receiving positive reviews in rankings worldwide. Such achievements are a result of efforts to obtain high quality research and learning environment. In addition, KUBS has been dedicated to supporting students.

KUBS ranked 76th in the field of Business and Economics of the “THE World University Rankings 2016-2017 by Subject,” released by the British weekly magazine, Times Higher Education. The university took first place in Korea by exclusively listing in the top 100. Furthermore, KUBS placed 97th worldwide and 1st in Korea in the Economics and Business subject area of the "2017 Best Global Universities Rankings." The ranking was calibrated by 13 performance indicators such as △Citations, △Reputation Survey, △Staff-to-Student Ratio, and △Doctorate-to-Bachelor’s Ratio.

In the field of academic influence, the heated competition among KUBS and other overseas universities is still ongoing. As of September 1, KUBS ranked 77th in the world, which is highest ranking in Korea, among SSRN top 1,000 business schools. SSRN (Social Science Research Network) is a worldwide repository of scholarly research in the social sciences and humanities. KUBS ranked substantially higher than Seoul National University Business School (96th), KAIST College of Business (194th), and Yonsei University School of Business (261st). The SSRN rankings predict the scholarly influence of an institute. The results are based on the statistics of authors and their affiliations and contribution to the paper.

The business school has been receiving superior reviews worldwide in educational area as well. According to the “2016 Top 100 EMBA Rankings,” released by FT, The KUBS EMBA moved up three places to No. 24 this year, only with its single-school program.

At the same time, KUBS has been conducting integrated startup education by launching “KUBS Startup Institute” in September. Iljin Group and Dongwha Group donated 2 billion won and 1.5 billion won, respectively
adding up to 3.5 billion won in totalto build and operate KUBS Startup Institute. The institute consists of two centers which are "Iljin Center for Startup Incubation" and "Seung Myung-Ho Center for Entrepreneurship Education." The Iljin Center for Startup Incubation will act as a foothold of the business incubation and network whereas the Seung Myung-Ho Center for Entrepreneurship Education aims to provide integrated startup education.

Thanks to the unconditional efforts of KUBS, graduates are able to make a smooth transition into society. Korea University has produced a total of 118 successful CPA candidates, which is the highest number among universities in Korea. KU once again reaffirms its position as the best institute for nurturing certified public accountants over the past five years (2012 – 2016). The college runs the CPA Prep Program called “Jeongjincho” to support students who study for CPA.

Meanwhile, the cases where graduates run a non-profit organization or startup based on their knowledge and skills gained at Korea University are gradually increasing: △Marymond (Hong Jo Yoon, Business Administration, ’05), the lifestyle brand that allows people to think about the restoration of dignity and the victims of Japanese military “Sexual Slavery,” △Bear.Better. (Jeong Ho Kim, Trades, ’85), the company that manufactures products by hiring handicapped with developmental disabilities, △Root Impact (Kyung Sun Chung, Business Administration, ’05), the company that helps non-profit organizations and startups.
