Active participation in renowned International Business Case Competition
First in Korea to compete face to face with students from globally prestigious schools

An increasing number of KUBS students are taking part in business case competitions where business school students from around the world analyze and provide solutions to management issues and cases. Most notably, KUBS students are the first Korean students to compete in such competitions.

First, KUBS students came in 2nd place in the Spirit Cup at the Scotiabank International Case Competition which was held at the University of Western Ontario, Canada in February, 2008.  They also made their names known at ‘The Citi Group International Case Competition’ held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in October of 08’. The students gained the spotlight when their participation was covered by SBS TV on a program called “SBS Special”. Also in January 2009, KUBS students took part in a technology and management international business case competition called ‘C40 Large Cities Climate Summit Seoul 2009’ along with students from University of Illinois, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Seoul National University. All of this was for the first time in the history of Korean universities.

The students have a busy schedule ahead. KUBS is the first Korean university invited to take part in a case competition that will be held at the University of Southern California in February. The MBA students will compete in the ‘Mai Bangkok Business Challenge’ in Thailand. Also, for the second year in a row, KUBS has been invited to compete at the ‘Scotiabank International Case Competition’ in March. Participants who have been selected through a preliminary competition at KUBS are busy preparing for the international competition.

Yaera Jun (Business Management, Class of 05) who took part in last year’s Scotiabank International Case Competition said “I was able to enhance my competitiveness and self- esteem by taking part in a prominent competition and competing with students from globally renowned schools.

Participants of case competitions are required to analyze real business cases of actual companies, identify the issues and provide strategies to solve the problems in a given period of time.

The school explained “KUBS is the only school in Korea that has taken part in numerous overseas case competitions and has already received several invitations. This clearly illustrates that the world recognizes KUBS as the business school representing Korea.”

Students are also participating in conferences hosted by global companies. Ji-ho Lee (Business Management, Class of 07) recently attended the ‘Ernst & Young International Intern Leadership Conference’ as the Korean representative. He said “The conference offered me a chance to enhance my understanding of global finance and meet with global talent.
