The Annual Ko-Yon Games 2006 Ends in a Tie

Korea University (KU) almost took the victory this year, but the friendly match ended in a friendly tie. Yonsei University (YU) succeeded in scoring a goal at the last moment of the soccer game, ending the game in a one to one tie. Soccer was the last game among all the games. KU students had to feel the sweet scent of victory leave at the last moment of the games. The overall result was two wins, two losses, and one tie.

Baseball was the first game. KU Baseball Team started out with a lead scoring first in the second inning. Its one point lead sustained until the fourth inning but was suddenly shattered after allowing YU Baseball Team five runs in the fifth inning. YU Baseball Team succeeded in adding another run in the sixth inning. The KU Baseball Team exerted its utmost but failed to add anymore runs.

The basketball game had a difficult struggle before the game could actually begin. KU Basketball Team protested against the YU Basketball Team for putting Daniel Sandrin, who played in the professional league, on the roster. Only after more than one hour the game was able to begin - at one moment, KU Basketball Team players got onto the bus to leave. Nonetheless, the second game, basketball, was able to erase from the minds of KU students the bitter loss of the baseball game. It ended in a delightful win of 66 to 53.

The Ice Hockey ended in a two to three defeat. KU player Lee Seung-yup pulled off the first goal in the first period and the KU Ice Hockey Team was on the lead. However, YU Ice Hockey Team scored one goal in the second period and two goals in the third period. KU Ice Hockey Team scored another goal in the third period and ardently chased after the YU Ice Hockey Team. Sadly, the team was unable to add anymore goals and the game ended three to two.

The rugby game, which was the first game of the second day, ended in a thrilling win of 27 to 3. The KU Rugby Team, which seized victory in various leagues in the spring season, was perhaps too strong to be a match for the YU Rugby Team. Even with the referee's biased and unfair judgments in the game, the KU Rugby Team was able to achieve the big win.

The soccer game was the most deplorable of all games. KU Soccer Team's Kim Young-bin scored the first goal after 31 minutes of the first half. The team kept the lead until the final minute of the injury time. All KU students were on their feet to celebrate the victory of the Annual Ko-Yon Games 2006. However, the YU Soccer Team succeeded in tying the game with less than a minute left. It was a moment of great disappointment. However, we believe in an enormous victory in next year's Annual Ko-Yon Soccer Game.

It is not only the KU Soccer Team that is expected to derive a great victory next year. All five sports teams - baseball, basketball, ice hockey, rugby, and soccer - will all succeed in acquiring triumphant victories. Our shouts of "pilseung (unfailing victories), jeonseung (entire victories), and apseung (overwhelming victories)" will not be vapid outcries next year.
