ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Nina H. Kim, Foreign Attorney Partner (Corporate), Yulchon LLC Topic : Introduction and Moderator Nina H. Kim is a senior foreign counsel in the Corporate & Finance Practice. Ms. Kim has extensive experience in a broad range of transactions and projects, including cross-border mergers and acquisitions (both inbound and outbound), corporate restructurings, joint ventures, and strategic alliances. Throughout her career, Ms. Kim has advised clients in many high-profile transactions, including capital investments made by foreign companies in Korea in various industries, including in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food and automobile sectors. She represents corporate and institutional clients in transactions and projects, including advising multi-national companies and global private equity funds in complex transactions with major Korean businesses and conglomerates. In addition, Ms. Kim counsels foreign clients, whom she has advised from the start of their initial investments in their Korean businesses, with on-going operational issues, including compliance, regulatory and commercial matters. |
Doil Son, Partner (IP & Technology), Yulchon LLC Topic : General Overview of Legal Developments Doil Son is the Head of the IP & Technology Practice of Yulchon LLC. His experience is focused on Mergers & Acquisitions, Information Communication Technology (ICT), Telecom and Media, Data Privacy and Cyber Security including Trade Secret Protection as well as crisis management. Mr. Son has a B.A. in political science from the Seoul National University and an L.L.M. from UCLA School of Law (2002). He joined Yulchon as a partner in 2012, after serving as a judge at Kwangju District Court for two years from 1996 to 1998, and working at other major Korean law firms. Mr. Son established his international network by serving as the Vice President for International Relations of the Korean Bar Association from 2012 to 2013, and currently serving as the Co-Chair of the Technology Law Committee of the International Bar Association and Co-Chair of the TMT Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association. |
Yong Whan Choi, Partner (Tax), Yulchon LLC Topic : Tax Yong Whan Choi is the co-head of Yulchon’s international tax practice. Mr. Choi obtained his LL.M. specializing in International Tax Studies from New York University and his Ph.D. from Yonsei University. Having also worked at a Japanese law firm while on secondment, Mr. Choi has extensive experience in advising multinational corporations on their tax issues in the U.S. and Japan. In particular, Mr. Choi has successfully advised numerous multinational corporations in the ICT and semiconductor industry on issues such as transfer pricing, permanent establishment, beneficial ownership and restructuring, and has further successfully represented these corporations before the Tax Tribunal and the Korean courts. In addition, Mr. Choi has advised various foreign investment funds and domestic corporations in cross-border transactions and further represented them before the Tax Tribunal and the Korean courts. |
Tae Hyoung Kim, Foreign CPA Partner (Tax), Yulchon LLC Topic : Tax Tae Hyoung Kim is a tax partner in Yulchon’s international tax practice with over 14 years of transfer pricing (TP) experience at Yulchon, KPMG, and Yoon & Yang. Tae Hyoung spends the bulk of his time defending major multinationals in TP focused tax audits and disputes. He has extensive APA and MAP experience and also assists global clients with TP planning, TP documentation, and navigating the TP implications of M&A transactions. |
Jung Woo Lee, Partner (HR), Yulchon LLC Topic : HR Jung Woo Lee is a partner at Yulchon LLC who practices primarily in the areas of Labor & Employment. His practice area focuses on advisory services including labor relations strategy (collective bargaining negotiations with the union, responding to strike, unfair labor practice cases), personnel management, regulatory compliance (including internal investigations), occupational safety & health (including the SAPA), and various litigation services (including employment matters) for multinational companies. Mr. Lee’s experiences of living abroad, being seconded to a Japanese law firm and obtaining a U.S. CPA license has facilitated his deep understanding of differences in corporate cultures, which has allowed him to be an effective counselor to various multinational companies. |
Christopher Mandel, Foreign Attorney Partner (HR), Yulchon LLC Topic : HR Christopher Mandel is a senior foreign counsel at Yulchon, primarily practicing employment and labor law. Chris previously worked as an associate in the New York office of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. He clerked for the Honorable William H. Yohn, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. |
Sun Hee Kim, Partner (Data Privacy), Yulchon LLC Topic : Data Privacy Sun Hee Kim is a partner at Yulchon who focuses her practice on data protection, e-commerce, ICT and Fintech. She also has extensive experience in cross-border M&As. Sun Hee’s data protection practice includes advising clients on cross-border data transfers, data management strategies, responding to data breach incidents, data protection trainings, and data related compliance projects, litigations, and investigations. Sun Hee also advises on data protection issues in the context of M&A transactions, such as conducting due diligence on the target companies, and assisting with post-merger integrations. Sun Hee also actively advises both domestic and global companies in the e-commerce, ICT and Fintech sectors, on their launching and expanding their businesses in Korea. Sun Hee is actively involved in the International Bar Association as an Officer of IBA’s Asia Pacific Regional Forum, and regularly speaks at various conferences and seminars on ICT and data privacy issues.
