VP/Director of Corporate Development
Samsung Electronics, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, is a leading global electronics company. Samsung Electronics is establishing a Strategy and Open Innovation Center (SSIC) in Silicon Valley, to drive long term strategy and to tap into the culture of innovation in Silicon Valley. The SSIC will leverage its deep network of industry and ecosystem relationships to develop corporate and business level strategies and to engage with strategic partners. The SSIC will also enable experts in system, software, and hardware technologies to collaborate and to co-develop next generation solutions platforms with our ecosystem. By driving disruptive innovations in technology and business, the SSIC will catalyze the creation of new businesses to serve as future growth engines for Samsung Electronics.
Responsibilities
The VP or Director of Corporate Development is responsible for implementing corporate and business level strategies for mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, and new business development. Job responsibilities include:
- Work with the executive team to develop corporate and business level strategies
- Drive investigations of new business opportunities
- Source and manage engagements with startups, strategic partners, and research institutions
- Conduct industry/market/competitive analysis and financial modeling
- Perform due diligence to support strategic projects
- Negotiate corporate and business development transactions, including partnerships, joint ventures, licenses, and M&A
- Guide and support post merger integration
- Strengthen network with private equity, venture capital, and investment bank communities
- Help to prepare communications and recommendations to senior corporate management
Qualifications
- Strong academic record from a leading undergraduate institution, with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or other applicable discipline; MBA from a top 5 institution highly desirable
- 4+ years experience in a Corporate Development, Private Equity, Venture Capital, or Investment Banking role, focused on IT related technologies (semiconductors, systems, or software)
- 6+ years experience in a product related role (development, marketing, sales, or business development) for technology products
- Proven experience in M&A and negotiating and closing strategic partnerships
- Strong network of private equity, venture capital, investment banking, and startup relationships
- Critical thinker, with strong analytical and problem solving skills, and unafraid to state an opinion and debate it
- Ability to articulate and advocate business value propositions for new markets and products
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong presentation skills
- Entrepreneurial drive and self confidence to excel in a high impact, highly dynamic, and geographically dispersed team environment
- High ethical standards
- Korean language fluency highly desirable
- Approximately 25% travel will be required
