KUBS wins 3rd place in Citi-HKUST International Case Competition
Four KUBS students participated in the competition…received an award for the first time 
 


On October 29, Korea University Business School (KUBS) students achieved the second runner-up position in Citi-HKUST International Case Competition (CICC). For the first time in history, KUBS students, △Jung-Soo Lee (Business 13), △Jae-Hoon Lee (Business 11), △Joo-Won Im (Business 13), and △Seung-Pyo Hong (Business 11), won an award in this competition.
 
CICC was held from 25 to 29 October (5 days) at Hong Kong University of Technology (HKUST) and Harbour Grand Hong Kong hosted by HKUST and Citibank.
 
For the first time in Korea, KUBS won second runner-up while Nanyang Technological University (Singapore) and Queen’s University (Canada) were the champion and first runner-up respectively. Besides the competition, KUBS had an opportunity to attend “Young Talent Show” as the result of winning third place in “Social Program Challenge” consisted of various missions.


 


In CICC, once the case of a real-life business context has distributed, each team has to research, analyze, and present recommendations to the strategic challenges within 22 hours. Students had the opportunities to visit case companies, as well as interviewing employees. “Techtronic Industries,” known as a world-class leader in power tools, served as a client this year. The participating teams were required to make a presentation in front of a panel of industry experts, including professors of HKUST and representatives of Citibank. The winners were selected after the judging process. 
 
The leading business schools around the world have been attending CICC every year. This year, a total of 18 universities participated in the competition in a team of four students. KUBS has been attending the competition since 2009, providing flight and accommodation costs by the school. In addition, KUBS students were accompanied by Professor Felix Reimann (International Business) in the competition. Under the guidance of Professor Tony Garrett and Felix Reimann, students studied Business case analysis and strategy based on the cases of Hong Kong and China for two months.

 


“I am very honored that we are the first one to receive the award, and I greatly appreciate the support and guidance provided by KUBS and professors,” said the participant Joo-Won Im (Business 13). “I was able to promote Korea and KUBS by participating in the social media mission and “Young Talent Show.” I also had the opportunity to accelerate my skills and compete with outstanding student from all over the world, utilizing my knowledge I have learned in KUBS,” she added.
