Notice of Special Leave of Absence for Spring 2023
Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, Special Leave of Absence can be permitted for Spring Semester of 2023. This case is not included into the total period of Leave of Absence also not calculated during your study in Korea University, which Freshman or Transfer Student can apply for.
□ Temporarily, this Special Leave of Absence is allowed to apply only those students who can’t start 2023 Spring semester or continue their study due to COVID-19 situation during 2023 Spring Semester.
1. Target : Freshmen/Tranfer/Course Completed Students who can meet one of the below conditions as the Graduate School student
A. Those who cannot start or continue their studies due to the COVID-19 confirmation (which is not a simple COVID-19 positive confirmation, but cannot continue due to COVID-19 complications and aftereffect during or after the isolation.)
B. Who can’t come to Korea from overseas where the restriction of arrival to Korea effects at time you apply ‘Special Leave of Absence’ for 2023 Spring Semester
- Only who stay in the Countries as indicated at http://www.0404.go.kr/ from MOFA(Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
2. Period of Application and the Withdrawal Policy
A. When : February 13(Mon.) - May 31(Wed.) 16:00, 2023(KST)
Where to apply and submit : Each department office
B. Tuition Withdrawal
1) Freshmen or Tranfer Students who completed to submit their application by March 17(Fri.) 16:00 (KST) can be refunded 100% of tuition fee except Entrance Fee. In case of regular students, the 100%
of tuition fee can be refunded if you apply by March 17(Fri.) 16:00 (KST).
2) After March 17(Fri.) 16:00 2023 (KST), it is possible to be refunded based on “General Tuition Refund Policy.” (Not following above 1) condition.)
C. In case of Awardee of scholarship for Spring 2023, all amount of scholarship will be redeemed if you’re confirmed as COVID-19 2023 Spring Semester and going to have Special Leave of Absence.
* If you can meet of the below conditions, your scholarship can be carried over and permitted to next semester when you return to school.
1) If you return to school right after end of the Special Leave of Absence regarding the COVID-19.
2) This can be eligible to only for scholarship awardee from Korea University not other institutions or foundations. (Regarding the foundation scholarship, you should follow their guidelines.)
3) In case of leave of absecne due to other reasons except the above, the same guidelines and regulations of the scholarship is applicable.
(A Scholarship awardee’s qualification will be revoked when the student apply for the levae of absence.)
3. Mandatory Documents
A. Application for Special Leave of Absence [Attachment 1]
B. Confirmation Letter (Chief Professor or Advisory Professor) [Attachment 2]
※ After consulting with your academic advisor through phone-call or face to face, please submit the [Attachment 2] to your department office.
C. COVID-19 Proof Documents
- Supporting documents for COVID-19 infected or confirmed
- Proof documents for not permitted visa issuance from the Korea Embassy
D. Tuition Fee Refund Form [Attachment 3]
- A studnet’s bank account should be uploaded on KU Portal(KUPID) for the tuition refund
4. ETC.
A. This special leave of absence only applicable for 2023 Spring Semester.
B. In case of the Freshmen / Tranfer studnets, they should register for this first semester and then can apply for the special leave of absence.
